#1A High School ROSE'S TURN...

I came across this on Youtube. I still don't get why High School's do GYPSY. It's so pointless to have a Rose and Louise who are the same age.

Anyway. She's not bad. But a Momma Rose she aint. But who can be at 17 years old? It seems she's trying to sound like Bernadette Peters.

And my god what is happening in the horn section? It's disastrous.

Just curious, what do you think of this High School ROSE'S TURN?

Trumpets and YIKES. She's not bad, but those musicians can't handle it.

I had a few friends in this production. I actually was supposed to see it, since I live less than a mile from the school, but I couldn't for some reason. The most common thing I've heard about this girl is "She's amazing for a HS student, but she's no Bernadette." However, I did see this school's production of "Pirates of Penzance," which was good, but didn't compare to my school's.

She did pretty alright, couldn't hear her on the last note though, but I still don't think it's a role that should be put in the hands of someone so young.
And BOOOOOOOOY THAT HORN SECTION IS OFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

Who's playing the orchestra? Madama Rose's Toreadorables??? God, that was an awful orchestra. At the end when she gets to "for me"s I just started laughing.
The girl is completely misdirected and feels lost on stage. There is nothing spontaneous about her "Rose's Turn," plus I think it feels more like a triumphant 11 o'clock number rather than a nervous breakdown which is what the number should be. I still prefer it over Betty Buckley's, at least this girl doesn't actually do the batting motion when she says "bat a thousand."

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Those strippers look like a hoot!

That's a number I would have loved to see!

If you're going to do Gypsy, PLEASE have an orchestra, not the kids from The Music Man when they first try to play.

I killed the boss, you don't think they're gonna fire me over a thing like that!!!!

See, I think it's fine for high schools to do some of the more challenging pieces, because it exposes the students to them.

The orchestra sucks.

She isn't bad, she's got the groundwork for a good Rose (and who knows, if we could see the full production, she might have been quite good.), and could potentially have a future in theatre.

And ray, I gotta disagree, having seen the full "Gypsy" where Buckley 'bats' it's pretty phenomenal.
