Mame, and now A Little Night Music! Two of my favorite musicals (later turned into film nightmares!)!
I have heard this is not a very good film, but I can't wait to see it!
It is going to be a good year for movie adaptations on dvd!

Beware of Answered Prayers...
This movie is a dog...
This release was already mentioned in another thread.
A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
That cover is SO HIDEOUS.
Dark_Angel -- same topic (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC) and some mention of the film but no one mentioned ANYTHING regarding this upcoming DVD release.
There's also another thread talking about the film-version, but again...NO mention of the upcoming DVD release.
I did a thorough (and thorough) search before I posted.
"Send in the crowds"???? "Is now lot of movie"
Well, this badly writter, badly designed (and hard to read) DVD cover art should kill this release if the film's reputation doesn't...
They're basically using the original one-sheet art work for the theatrical release, so it's not the writer or the creator of the DVD cover. Blame the moron who actually designed the original one-sheet poster back in 1978.
Here's the original 1978 one-sheet poster for the film:

Yeah, I see. I assumed the tree image was original, but thought the rest was new. Guess not.
Strange though that they left in the language that makes it sound like a theatrical release. And the font is hard to read over the orgy tree in both iterations...
YAY! I"m so excited! Yes I've seen the film. Yes its flawed, but I adore it and it was a favorite of mine as a child.
I can't stop laughing at the line "send in the crowds."
Worth it just to watch Len Cariou and Diana Rigg. Taylor is Taylor, and looks very unwell during most of the movie. Her health problems are legendary.
My... God...
I can't wait to see this thing.
That art will cause the film to sell even less copies than it already will.
They could totally modernize the cover, making it look fresh and new. Put Taylor on the cover, and put it in one of those nice cardboard slips.
Believe it or not, the actual look of the DVD case has something to do with sales.
I think they should put Taylor on the cover spread eagle ala Basic Instinct. Hot!

Sadly, even with a new cover, this DVD is going to be of interest to an extremely limited audience. We should be extremely thankful it is coming out at all.
Image had planned to release it a couple of years ago, but said the original elements were in such bad shape it wouldn't be worth it to attempt a restoration of any kind. At least it is being released widescreen. But ...sigh... still in mono, like MAME.
I agree. No amount of Photoshopping or modernizing is going to make this DVD desireable to anyone who doesn't already know what it is and wants it desperately.
Like me.

LOL!
I can't wait to see Henrik singing "Later" on a tree...
I wonder what the people from the Oscars committee thought when they saw this film.

I've said this before...
If you haven't seen the movie ... just IMAGINE how you would do the movie... your version will better.

The Oscar folks were smart enough to nominate Florence Klotz and Jonathan Tunick ... and Tunick won!
Which makes A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC officially "an Academy Award winning film."
I still think if this were marketed better, it would sell more copies. Not thousands more, but more.
There are many Taylor fans out that that might not even know of this film.
They could stamp the ACADEMY AWARD stuff on the front too, with a statue of Oscar.
There are things that can be done.
Well BrodyFosse,
Your search wasn't throrough enough because in that very thread philcrosby posted:
"After the film was completed, it took quite a long time to find a distributor, if I remember correctly, with only schlockmeister Roger Corman willing to pick it up.
The film is being released on DVD this June ... I can finally retire my well-used laserdisc!
Hmmm..funny that poster looks oddly familiar. Oh yeah, I posted it on the other thread as well!
...but I digress...

Seems that little mention didn't bring on the response nor reaction my little post did earlier today.
Just sharing the love, that's all...hence my inclusion of the actual DVD cover art, et al.
