I think I have entirely too much time on my hands to ponder these things, but with all the movies being made into musicals, I'm actually surprised that "A League of their Own" hasn't been tackled yet. Technically, it could be difficult with the baseball scenes, but the story/characters seem like they could do well as a musical. Any thoughts?

A League of Their Own: The Musical
Hopefully they can entice Babaloo Mandel to be a part of writing the book for the show... just so we have a reason to keep mentioning the name Babaloo Mandel.
I still think HEART & SOULS would make a beautiful musical.

I absolutely LOVE this idea, actually. I think it lends itself very well to a musical adaptation. And you could have a lot of fun (and face a lot of creative challenges) with the baseball storyline.
And "a mostly forgotten" movie? Please. It was one of the best and most successful movie comedies of the early 90s and remains very popular.
Also LOVE some of the ideas mentioned for the casting. Margo Lion, where are you??

Great song list...it's only missing a song called "Go Piss on Your Hat!"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Since the first time I saw it, I thought it just lends itself beautifully to musicalization.
I had no idea A League of Their Own is still "very popular"! I must have turned a blind eye to all those League of Their Own viewings, discussions and nostalgia parties or however its popularity is determined. I enjoyed the film when I watched it, but was somehow unaware of its constant and unflinching permanent presence in American culture. Now I feel bad for mentioning Ruthless People and Heart and Souls are they must be in the forefront of the minds of the public by my fondness for them.
"Personally, if there is going to be another musical based on a mostly forgotten comedy film it should either be Ruthless People or Heart and Souls."
I've always thought Ruthless People would make a hell of a musical. The characters just cry out for some good bitchy songs. Who in the world could possibly play the part of Barbara Stone tho?
Oh, and RIP Anita Morris, who gives a highly memorable performance in Ruthless People.
I was watching this film today and thinking of the potential it has to be an excellent musical. Maybe something Ahrens and Flaherty could write?

I always thought Heart and Souls would also make a great musical (there's actually a musical number in the film, maybe that's where the idea sprang...). What's better is that the movie was a box office bomb and has a faithful cult fandom, but would be totally new to most of the theatre-going public.
