Arick has the petition

Ha ha. Actually, I'd love to know more about Arick (my first post in this thread asked for info on him). I had to join IMDB Pro to get his mailing address, email, and phone number. I'm guessing we'll have to use all three before we get any response.

ghostlight certainly reads a lot into my tone. I don't see the problem in presenting a published account that differs from an account posted here. I see that as adding information to the discussion. If you see that as condescending, that's your thing.

Wow, this thread took all kinds of turns!

The "Someone In a Tree" thread ...

The "Rashomon" thread ...

The "save best12bars' character" thread ...

Thanks very much to all who rallied to my defense here. I didn't feel my character was being assassinated or anything that harsh, but I agree that my first reaction was that marknyc sounded pretty put-off by my story. Even if it's hard to get a "tone" from fairly generic text comments, I still had the same knee-jerk reaction as many of you. It was dry, at the very least.

As far as hoping for a full print of the film ... who knows? I won't believe it until I see it. And if any fool is intentionally hiding it from the public, it's as good as lost forever anyway. I can't be bothered with people like that. It's a waste of time and energy.

Show me the print you claim to have, or shut up about it. Those are really the only two solutions that interest me.

I'll never understand why people on message boards get so upset so easily. I merely pointed out the stark differences in the two accounts, which I found interesting. I never accused anyone of lying.

As to the rumored print, feel free to sit back and watch. No one's asking anyone to expend any time and energy if they don't want to. And you're welcome to snicker when our efforts come up dry, as they probably will. I'm fine with that. But I can't sit back and do nothing when there is a remote chance that Arick has a print.

So I and other Judy fans will pursue this. If we fail, feel free to say "I told you so." But if we succeed I hope you all will enjoy watching the complete ASIB.

Yes, and I'll also enjoy watching the Orson Welles cut of The Magnificent Ambersons right after.

Are you doing anything to try to find it? "Metropolis" showed up 80 years after it was cut, when everyone was convinced it was lost forever.

Nobody cares that Arick has the petition!

Jesus Christ! You're insanely obsessed. You edited a post a full day later to address me? You don't need to be looking for lost prints, you need to be looking for a shrink.

"I'd love to know more about Arick (my first post in this thread asked for info on him)"

Actually, your first post said this:

"Anyone know him?

Here's the article "

which reads as an introduction, not a query.

"I don't see the problem in presenting a published account that differs from an account posted here. I see that as adding information to the discussion. If you see that as condescending, that's your thing. "

And so you have presented it - over and over and over. I'll drop the "condescending" assessment, if you like, but I'm definitely sticking with annoying.

Arick has the petition

Yes, I know what my first post said. It was a reasonable attempt to ask if anyone had any more info on Arick.

I presented Haver's account only once. My later posts were all responses to the attacks I received. I think that's understandable.

I edited the post a day later because I had missed your attack the first time I responded.

Go ahead and sit back. There isn't.

I'll continue my efforts until I get an acceptable answer.

"Are you doing anything to try to find it? "Metropolis" showed up 80 years after it was cut, when everyone was convinced it was lost forever."

Sorry, apples and oranges. Metropolis was released at its original length. Ambersons was cut by the studio and is the only negative that exists - all other footage was destroyed. And yet, the urban myth continues to this day that some mysterious print of Welles' cut is in some mysterious place in Brazil and people like Joe and Arrick would probably have you believe that it's true and they've seen it. It's not true and no one has.

However, I have done my bit about Ambersons and the Welles cut - read my mystery Murder at the Hollywood Historical Society and you'll find the mystery solved by fifteen-year-old Adriana Hofstetter. She's a peach and the plot of the book is all about the print of Ambersons. One caveat, though - it's - you know - fiction.

Other unreleased films have surfaced - the original cut of "The Big Sleep" for example. But I agree that unreleased footage is far less likely to surface.

Arick has the petition fanatic

Let me get this straight. Requests for clarification on what you mean by "interesting" are attacks? Clarification is a good thing. "Anybody know him? Here's the article" is not a clear request for more information.

"I'll never understand why people on message boards get so upset so easily."

The only person getting upset here is you - so much so that you're not thinking clearly, otherwise you wouldn't feel the need to post, then rush back to edit, just like you did with your last post so you could edit the subject line. Think twice, post once. You're spinning your wheels here. Move on, for your own sake. After all, you're wasting precious time here when there are lost prints to be found.

Arick has the petition

I have them all! All, I tell you!

I'm sitting in my big, fat, screening room in Kansas right now, watching the full-length Wizard of Oz, complete with the Jitterbug number, Renovation sequence, and "crying" reprise of Over the Rainbow ... followed by Ambersons: Robert Wise LIED and kept every frame of footage that hit that cutting room floor at RKO. He was gonna throw it out, but I told him to hang onto it. You never know, right? ... followed by a Star Is Born! Gramps hid a full print in his overcoat when he flipped Jackie Warner off on the way out the door.

THERE, I SAID it. Let the petitions and the causes and the furor begin! I'm not "givin' it," I tell ya. Never!!!

I'm not upset. I think all of my posts have had a reasonable tone, even though I've been insulted and called many names. And I'll continue to post as long as I'm attacked.

You actually noticed that I edited the offensive post title? Funny.

Arick has the petition

Mark, the prints that have surfaced are usually completely by accident. Someone doesn't realize what they have and when they stumble onto it, they TELL PEOPLE and show it to them.

A cause or petition or passionate plea or repeated hounding of a highly questionable source with NO PROOF had nothing to do with it.

Arick has the petition

As I have said a number of times in this thread, I don't expect the petition to generate any response. It was just a first step to let him know that people are aware of the rumor and to give him a reasonable chance to respond.

Our later efforts will be more productive in getting a response, I'm sure.

"And I'll continue to post as long as I'm attacked. "

Yes, that's a quite sane way to deal with this.

"You actually noticed that I edited the offensive post title? Funny."

Not half as funny as your continuing to do so.

What ... bonfires and pitchforks? A search warrant?

Good luck with that.

EDIT: The problem is you're trying to control or influence something you have no control over.

It's like starting a petition to stop it from raining tomorrow.

I don't think responding to attacks is insane.

I'm not going to share our ideas for further steps with this antagonistic audience. But there are obviously many things we can do other than simply sending a petition.
#95

Arick has the petition

Oh my! Whatever shall we do now that you won't share your continuing super-secret stalker plans for Arick? I'm starting to feel sorry for the guy, despite bk's and PJ's feelings about him.

"And I'll continue to post as long as I'm attacked. "

Sounds like a challenge. Be advised, I have a wicked summer cold and am cabin-feverish.
#96

Arick has the petition

No plans to do anything terrible to Arick. But as I have said a number of times, I have no illusions that anything as simple as a petition will resolve this question.
