I enjoyed the concept album. As everyone has already said, the first things I thought of while listening to it were both LES MIS and JEKYLL & HYDE. (It was also reminiscent of a workshop for GREAT EXPECTATIONS from a few years ago. I guess that type of novel lends itself easily to the same style of music.) I am definitely looking forward to seeing the show.

Only thing is every time I see the logo I think it's an ad for SWEENEY TODD or a regional production of LES MIS.

I don't think it is fair to say that the days of pop operas are done in NYC. As much as I loved Pirate Queen I could see its flaws. I don't think it is fair to judge how NY audiences will react towards a pop opera because the last one we had to judge wasn't that good all around. Maybe, things would be different if it is something that is good. I don't know, I am just saying. I have heard bits of the demo and I must say I love what I hear. Maybe that is becuase I am a fan of the pop opera genre and I do love Les Miserables.

As for the marquee for the theatre. The way the marquee is done has nothing to do with this show. it has always been like that. The Hershfieald sp? marquee has always had the big sign pointing towards the 7th avenue side and nothing at all pointing towards the 8th avenue sign.

I was surprised this weekend when I went to Times Square and glanced westward down 45th Street. It was at night, and the A TALE OF TWO CITIES marquee stood out beautifully -- higher and brighter than any of the other marquees along that street, despite its distance from Broadway. It was eye-catching and memorable, not to mention simple and iconic -- like all the old classy B'way signs used to be.

Funny, the CURTAINS marquee never caught my eye like that. (But maybe that's because it didn't have as many words in its title, so it didn't stand out as much.)

It's totally gonna suck to be the guy who has to crawl up on that ladder and unscrew all those light bulbs if ATOTC goes down as quickly as Pirate Queen did.

:)

There is some pretty heavy bashing and specualtion going on for this show before it even has its first preview, but I would like to say, if the show makes it, the success isn't going to come from critics or the regular NY theatre crowd, it will come to the same high school, middle school, and foreign groups that have been filling up 'Phantom' for the last 20 years. Those tour guides and teachers are, I'm sure, desperate to see a show
that doesn't have the man with the mask for a change.

Just my guess, we shall see.
