WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!?????????
Ok, i'll admit- I know very little about the show. But really people! An entire song about COOKIES!!! Perhaps this show is better suited to touring to public libraries across the country. Maybe a more juvinille audience (who didnt just pay $100 per ticket) would be more appreciative of the simple (bordering on pointless) message which this show conveys.
"Eating cookies, eating cookies
We're so happy eating cookies
Cookies, cookies, cookies we adore!"
Juvenile? Yes.
But you got to admit it's a statement that's hard to argue.
"I think it's gay night out there. It's amazing. I mean, look at Frog and Toad-- what's that about?" -- Denis O'Hare
Maybe there is more to is than cookies...
Maybe cookies is a euphemism of sorts...?
Huh? Huh?
What does eating cookies really mean? And can a Frog and a Toad ever truly find happiness together? And even if they do, the Bible clearly states such feelings are forbidden between frogs and toads. Now what does eating cookies mean? Less silly song about a delicious treat, more bittersweet remembrance of an easier time... huh? Huh? You just have to think about it for awhile.
Yeah.... I just heard that on BroadwayWorld Radio (as you might have just heard). It is kind of odd.
Ah, Sarah (lamentingenvelope* *pats your head and walks away*
(a la Mason)
Oh, I'm sorry if I'm silly...

I would agree. The more I hear about the ideas for broadway shows, the more I choke myself and dive into my RENT soundtrack. Where is broadway going when all the shows comming out are based on childrens book's and 15 year old MGM movies?!?!
It was really cute for kids.. but there is a reason it only last 76 performances... but its a cute fun little kid kind of show.. I like "get a load a toad get a load a toad, geat a load a toad he's funny.. toad looks funny ina bathingsuite" better then the cookie song.. but thats just me.. lol nah.. but Its a cute show for kids..

It flopped on Broadway because tickets were too expensive for a five-person kid's show. In other words, it didn't belong on Broadway. Neither did LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS or YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN
I'm sure THE FANTASTICKS would have flopped on Broadway.
That said, we did the Chicago area premiere of FROG AND TOAD last year, and it was the biggest hit in the 28 year history of our theatre.
It's an adorable show that adults can enjoy as much as kids. The songs are tuneful, and there are plenty of laughs. It should not have been a Broadway show because of its size (small) and ticket prices (HIGH!), though it doesn't hurt its regional theater future that they can advertise 3 Tony Nominations. It's currently playing in Long Beach, CA, an excellent production directed by the super talented Kay Cole. If you're in the L.A. area, catch it before it's over in a couple of weeks.
I'm sure it's rather enjoyable in a regional setting...with lower ticket prices than the Broadway version.
I LOOOOVED Frog and Toad! Juvenile? Yes! It's a show for kids! It should have stayed lonfer at the New Victory rather than transferring to Broadway. I'm sure regional and touring productions will enjoy success.

I loved it. But that said, it was too expensive for what it was; a great show for the young and the young at heart

Well said. Also, you can't listen to the songs out of context and draw a meaningful conclusion.
It was one of the best shows I have ever seen--and there were plenty of discounts which would allow you to spend much less than $100...
