I will be in NY between April 2nd-8th and I'm seeing:

Sondheim on Sondheim
La Cage Aux Folles
A Little Night Music
Anyone Can Whistle
Lips Together, Teeth Apart

and I'm trying to fit in another 3 shows.

It is such a vague question I realise, I'm pretty open to all musicals in general but don't want to see POTO or Wicked or the Lion King etc.. - but I don't know whether I should see West Side Story or South Pacific or Next to Normal (or those three) but not others, and things like that. (I do kind of 'know' the shows but in terms of seeing the actual production and things)

What about Promises, Promises? I realise it hasn't started yet but I don't know anything about the show - is it a good show? It might be rewarding to see something I don't know *anything* about (except 'say a little prayer')

MUST they be musicals??? If not, what about Lend Me a Tenor? Or Next Fall?

Out of the ones you list I HIGHLY reccommentd
N2N and South Pacific (although I saw the original revival cast and don't know what shape it is currently in. I'd have the same to say of HAIR as well.

I'd also suggest American Idiot....but I haven't seen it yet...I'm just really jazzed to do so.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

heheh ok :), thanks :P.

And it doesn't necessarily have to be a play, but I'm so uncultured in plays it is ridiculous (Lips Together, Teeth apart will be the first one I have ever seen besides Taming of the Shrew once, lulz). So because I have limited time, and I can't visit NY often (Australia - first time), I wasn't sure how much time I'd be willing to 'risk' on plays.

Highly recommend NEXT TO NORMAL
OUR TOWN, if you trust yourself to find it downtown, is also one of my favorites. Brilliant.

A friend and I just saw The Cocktail Party, at the Beckett Theatre in Theatre Row (on 42nd between 9th and 10th). We both loved it, although I'm still processing what exactly it is we saw. If you want to see a play, though, I definitely recommend it.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad
