Dammuh, she's gooooooooooooood.
I distinctly heard a camera snap at the beginning, which she ignored. Hannah Rose DeFlumeri is gonna have a career.

I think she did a great job for a high school performance!
Patti LuPone, I mean.

Posted: 5/1/10 at 9:56amI could see elements of LuPone's Rose, but the whole time I was watching it all I could think of was "Winona Rider is Mama Rose."

Um.....so?
This is a high school production we are talking about; not a show going to Broadway that has an actress doing the same thing as the one before her.

I'll jump on the "this girl rocks" bandwagon. If she's this good as a 17 or 18 year-old, in ten years, with good training and more experience, she is going to be doing pretty well for herself I think.
And OF COURSE she is taking inspirations from the cast recording. EVERYONE does that in high school. My Cinderella's Prince in Into the Woods in high school was a direct rip-off of Robert Westenberg's performance. Even adult actors steal from the best. When I finally get my chance to play Sweneey Todd, you'll probably see hints of George Hearn, Len Cariou, Michael Cerveris, Johnny Depp, a little bit of Michael Emerson on "Lost"...and of course a good chunck of my own crazy personality.

Posted: 5/1/10 at 12:19pmEven if she copies LuPone's "Choices" she makes them real (if you ask me)....I thought that was FIERCE. She'll have a career for sure!

Posted: 5/1/10 at 2:26pmI opened up expecting a train wreck. She's fxcking great. As she gets older, I'm sure she wont want to copy as much. Not like she didn't have school all day and homework at night and maybe a job and chores at home too! Good on her!!! LOL. (I would have copied Lansbury's Rose's Turn, but that's for another thread...)

Patti wasn't the first actress to do "Hello everybody, my name's Rose like that" either.
I just find it silly when people go all apoplectic about high school performances on Youtube.

Her "Everything's Coming Up Roses" is a lot like Patti too.
Not as crazy though.

Posted: 5/1/10 at 2:58pmThere are plenty of other 17 and 18 year olds that can belt just as well. I thought it was a so-so performance. I think it's incredibly hard for a high school to do Gypsy after the attention Patti LuPone got as Rose. I think Gypsy is a show that should be left to professionals. She sounds good, but I don't see any other attraction.

I just watched it. OF COURSE she rip and throws the letter on "bright lights and lollipops." Come on, come up with your own ideas.
Oh well, she is probably the best high school Rose i've seen on Youtube. There are some scary ones on there.

It's a G.D. high school, for crap's sake!
Every high school performer watches or knows or somehow copys a previous incarnation of the show.
She's good.
Just drop it.

Posted: 5/1/10 at 3:20pmBesides, most high schools don't try an re-invent the wheel when it comes to doing classics. They 'copy' Broadway shows and performers because 'that's the way the show is done'.

Quick question:
Does it bother you that EVERY production of OKLAHOMA! has a YELLOW farm house?

Me, too.
A little.
Man, can't they do one in green?
Hell, when I was in high school and was cast as the undertaker in I REMEBER MAMA. The actor who played the part in the movie was partially bald, so I soaped my hair out for every show. I thought undertakers HAD to be bald!
