Jesus. Copies the staging, the vocal inflections, the screams, EVERYTHING. Not one moment of originality. She even picks up and throws the coat at the same exact moment. The orchestra is also on stage like the revival. This director is a thief.
I wish Patti could see this.

If you watch her in the Curtains video, she copies Debra Monk too!
Does she scream at the audience?

I don't think she sounds anything like Patti, and definitely didn't copy most of Patti inflections (at least the few times I saw it). I agree about the staging, though, but that's the director's fault, not her's.
She is absolutely copying Patti's vocal inflections. From "Hello everybody! My name's ROSE!" to the final note. Rewatch Patti on Youtube.
I never said she sounds like Patti. but she is ripping off Patti's interpretation to the fullest.
"Here's Rosa!"
Who's Rosa? Was this a Mexican production?
I hear a little Patti here and there, but for all the places where they're similar there's an equal amount of moments that are very different. This girl is holding out notes way longer than Patti did in certain places and seemingly attempting to put her own spin on it. Though, it wouldn't surprise me if she did use the LuPone recording as a reference. We all listened to cast recordings of shows we were in in high school and tried to emulate our favorite performers. There's no shame there.
^ I am not blaming the girl. It's clearly the director's fault.

Exactly!
She's what, 17? By the time she's out of college, she'll have chewed up and digested the scenery of every musical in the repertoire.
I predict great things. But she'll be loonier than Betty Buckley by the time she gets to 40.
Bottom line: She's f*cking good.

Damn, she can sang...
Fools Fall In Love
I just clicked this hoping for a good laugh. Uhh, shocker: she is unbelievable!! I was laughing at first but I was speechless by the end. Sure, I get a Patti vibe, but she's in high school for chrissake! It's still coming from a real place. The fact that she's able to convincingly connect to material like that at her age is remarkable! Oh, and the girl can belt.

Haha when I was opening this thread I was saying to myself please, please let this be my former high school, which it is. I think any public high school putting on a production of Gypsy is a terrible idea to begin with...
^ So you knew this girl?
My high school never would have been able to put on Gypsy and especially not Curtains. There's way too many sexual innuendos in Curtains and Gypsy, basically being about a stripper, never would have been allowed either. Where is this school?
Crazy. Just...belt. She can.
I think it's in Connecticut. Oh and she is going to Ithaca, I presume for musical theatre.

Well when I was a senior she was a freshman, but I do know the name and I think I saw her in our sh*tastick production of Into the Woods
eta: It is Newtown High School in Connecticut

I JUST saw this video on Facebook and was going to post the Patti LuPone comment there.
But opted not to for fear it might have seemed mean. I'm glad I can log onto BWW and find a thread.
:)
I actually saw this production!! I live in the next town over. She was fantastic!
She's very talented. I am sure she will refine her technique in her training. All the raw materials are there. She may want to consider a breast reduction-the eggrolls were jumping all over the place and distracted me at times.

Now if you want to check out another Newtown High alum who is on here way to hit it big watch this:

This was a regional production of Urinetown that I did get to catch and she was phenomenal as Little Sally. Unfortunately (or fortunately) she went to a performing arts high school as well so she was unable to participate in our annual musicals. She had an unusually matured acting ability and she is now honing her craft at NYU...
This girl is very good! Like Midnight Radio, I have a problem with high schools putting on "Gypsy".

WOW, this girl has a lot of talent. Sure, it could use some refining, but that is the same for most talented kids her age. It is true that there are a few moments that seem like they were channeled through Patti, but there were an awful lot of moments that were not.
I love how understated "some refining" is.
But at least it seems somewhat watchable.
