no sock puppet ... just a slightly tipsy poster who read the boards in chrono order and before the news!
mea culpa, tout le monde.

"May be inappropriate for 16 and under. (Nudity, subject matter)
Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre"
Equus is now listed on Telecharge.

Posted: 4/9/08 at 10:21amI posted this on another thread, but I seem to remember that kids under a certain age had to be accompanied by a parent during the original Broadway run. I seem to remember trying to get tickets for it and not being able to.

There was absolutely no age restriction for the London run last year, simply a caution to those parents who had second thoughts.
A very funny sight played out every night at the stage door of The Gielgud Theatre- there were hundreds of pre teens and teenagers there gathering autographs etc but only a small percentage of these had actually sat thru the performance. Many parents were just bring the kids to the stage door to see Daniel Radcliffe in person!

During the original 70s run of Equus, they were looking for ways to keep it going.
Irene Worth approached both the producer's office (I think Bloomgarden was dead by this point) and Peter Shaffer citing the veiled attraction that the doctor develops for the boy, and might they consider that the doctor could be played by a woman with very little changes in the script? Funny how Irene had the perfect actress in mind.
Shaffer agreed with Irene's logic and was intrigued and didn't rule this idea out, but then Perkins extended and they decided not to go with it.
Point being, the doctor does develop an attraction to the boy and that is part of his conflict.
I heard this at a party while it was happening and I liked the idea because I knew Irene having worked backstage at Sweet Bird, and I knew she could bring it off.
[Sidebar: Irene Worth was 'that great English actress who was born in Nebraska and raised in California.' Sort of Vera Charles, but for real.]

jinks, I have no idea why people didn't know but I do know that I've been checking that telecharge page for weeks and it's been there with this qualifier:
This event is not on sale right now. Please check again for more information.
And, good grief, wickedboy, can you not size that photo so that it's not messing up the page?

When I saw it in London, there was a little kid sitting in front of me. I swear, he couldn't be more than six or seven. His mother covered his eyes during the entire ending scene, then bitched about how she shouldn't have brought him. WTF???? I mean, it's common knowledge that there's nudity.
Then, at the stage door, on of the guys that played a horse, called me a wanker when I told him he did a good job. He said he wouldn't talk to a tourist that was just there to see Radcliffe's d*** and called ma a few other choice words when I retaliated. And the little kid? Was right behind me and my friends with his mother.
Can anyone say therapy?
