A question about Equus's Broadway run

I have a question about the Broadway run of Equus.
I remember reading a ton of stories about parents taking their young child in London to see the show because Radcliffe was in it. And, the parents took the kids to see the show without knowing that there was nudity at all in the play. So, they complained about the producers not making it aware when they bought the ticket.
If memory serves, the producers said that they shouldn't be at all at fault because it is the parent who should be more aware of what tickets they buy for their child.
My question is this. Do any of you think that the same kind of problem is going to happen during the Broadway run of this show? Or are the producers going to be more aware of this and maybe advertise that the show has nudity.

I'm sure it will happen...
people are so stupid -- even IF there is an advisory, they will bitch and complain.
I can't stand it!

Unfortunately, there are a lot of stupid people out there who will want to take their kids to Equus, just because of Daniel Radcliffe.
Poor stupid people....

Jaystar,
There is no age requirement in the theatre. Most theatres have a policy of no one under four can enter the theatre. But, most kids that do go (unless its a disney show) aren't younger then four so I have never heard of a situation where it is a problem.
But, I won't be shocked to hear a story about something like this popping up in the Times during the shows run.

Posted: 4/8/08 at 9:18pmWhy is it the producer's responisiblity? If parents buy it for their children without looking into it, it's their own fault.

Nudity is the least of the problems with EQUUS. The the play contains simulated sex and a strong theme of bestiality and a relationship with the doctor that could well be deemed latent homosexuality.
It's definitely not a play for 10 year olds.

As I recall, there was an outcry from parents who were upset at the idea of Harry Potter being naked on a stage, and not being able to take their children to this show. I don't remember ever reading about parents actually taking their kids to the show not having prior knowledge of the show's content. Considering all the publicity that surrounded Radcliffe's stage debut, I find it hard to believe that any parent of a Harry Potter fan would have unaware of what kind of show he was going into.

Posted: 4/8/08 at 10:11pmIf the parents are smart they would buy tickets for themselves and tell the kids, "If you stand by this door for about two and a half hours, Harry Potter will come out." Then leave the kids at the stage door, enjoy the show and the kids will never DREAM of wandering away.

I wouldn't be suprised if it were true. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions.
A number of years ago when the origianl Blue's Clues guy (Nickelodeon) got a gig on one of the L&O's, he played a drug dealer.
Nick parents went NUTS over it. My question: WHY would your 4 or 5 yo kid be up at 9 or 10 pm watching it??????
Ugh...I hate most people. (Not you on the boards, of course.)

Posted: 4/8/08 at 10:32pmYeah, totally rediculous. It definitely is the parent's faults for not checking the content of a show before taking their children. I witnessed this in both Chicago and Spamalot. And just the fact that I know "Harry Potter" will be naked in this, makes me cringe and not want to see it. LOL! But yeah, if an actor wants to do a role that is not for the audience they usually appeal to, than I don't see why they can't or shouldn't do it. If a casting director thinks they are right for the role, than that's all that should matter.
#17re: A question about Equus's Broadway run
Posted: 4/8/08 at 10:54pmI remember reading it from a british paper online during the time of the run. I forgot which one though.

#19re: A question about Equus's Broadway run
Posted: 4/8/08 at 11:22pmThe tickets probaly won't go on sale to the general public. It will most likely sell out during the pre-sale just like Three Days of Rain did. I'm desperately trying to find someone who owns that card. I've already asked about ten people and noone has it.

If it does sell out during the pre-sale you could always get cancelation tickets on the day of the show or Standing Room.

Dollypop - beastiality? The boy considers the horses to be Gods. He rides the horses nude, but does not have relations with them.
The sex with the girl does not happen because he knows his gods are watching and can't do it that is why he blinds them. The theme is cruelity to animals. That would disturb kids as well as adults. It is not as explicit on the stage because of the symbolic horses, but is very evident in the film with real animals.
As to a perverted relationship with the doctor, that is in the eye of the beholder.
EQUUS is a terrific play and a good film. It is a heavy play that can leave you limp after watching it.

I saw Equus last April in London, and I was suprised to see many young kids. There was a boy about 10 years sitting next me. (A future jaystarr?)
While I'm sure it'll cause some controversy, the truth of it is, the play was three hours long, and so dark - literally and figuratively - that I'm guessing any kids that do see the show will be doing what the kid next to me was doing. Which was sleeping soundly against his mother's shoulder.
