ACl -- Where are their mikes & Celebrity in audience

I went to see ACL last night -- great performances for the most part. The guy who plays Harry Potter was in the audience -- heavily guarded and was ushered out by two bodyguards during the last seconds of "One".

Another brief comment -- Charlotte flubbed the lyrics to 'The Music and the Mirror"

So the last lines before she starts the song full out went like this: "Give me somebody to dance for, give me somebody to show, let me wake up in the morning ... by ummm.. showing me how to begiiiiiiiiiiiiin ... play me the music . . " She kept her cool though aand most people didn't notice because her voice was a little weak anyway.

Anyway, it sounded to me like the dancers wear body mikes, but their costumes are so tight and I couldn't see the battery pack/transmitter anywhere and I did not see those other microphones that they somtimes place on the stage or hang from the flies. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

They have hairline mics.

Charlotte's is on her body...it's attached to the leotard at the base of the v neck. She kept hitting it one show I was at with her "One" rehearsal hat and gave off terrible static everytime she put the hat to her chest.

That's right NJgirl, Charlotte's is clipped on. I know that some of them have it, but I don't remember who specifically. I think Connie has a hairline mic, but not 100% sure.

Stage Directions magazine did a cover story about mic-ing the revival of A Chorus Line. I'm not sure if it's available online, and I don't have it with me-- maybe a google search?

How does the whole "ushering" out thing work? I mean, I'm not sure of how the theater is set up, but is it continental seating where there are isles? If not, isn't it a big distraction when this big group gets up and has to get people to move for them? Or do they generally sit in the back on the isle or what?

Good article. Interesting to read that the men have their mic packs in their dance belt. Does that mean....ummmmm...up front? Isn't that about the only place you could put something "in" on a dance belt?

I know a lot of people who hide the mic pack between their legs.
