Makes good sense to me that they canceled the first 3 previews, figuring it this way:
Whatever tech time was planned for New York was likely predicated on some, but not too many, significant changes happening between Chicago and New York. With a new, or at least fresh creative vision being brought to the project, one could expect a bit more drastic change.
Frankly, I'll bet they don't even know yet what the full extent of the changes will be yet. But by cancelling those first 3 previews, they buy themselves a little extra insurance in case the changes do indeed turn out to be more meaningful than they originally expected and they need the extra time to tech.
All of that aside, I wouldn't want to be one of the customers who bought tickets for one of those first performances, but on some level, with a new musical, that's kinda the chance you take buying so early in the run (easy for me to say having bought tickets for early May!).
WHERE TO START???
This thread has quickly turned into a Drunk Chita spectacle. What a surprise. This seems right. No surprises here.
DRS is a freaking dumb@ss. Pull your head out of your butt and think about what you say. You have contradicted yourself so many times, I'm so confused.
You're a hot mess. Really.
DCR is just very young, and his posts reflect that sometimes.
I still think this entire thing is absurd. I simply said my prediction and was torn apart. I was not the one who brought up Riedel, and suddenly everyone is yelling at me because I said I didn't like the guy and I think he is full of ****, thatdoesnt mean he will always be wrong.
How exactely did I contradict myself? And MusicSnob you are the biggest @$$hole on the board. I have not seen you make a nice comment in the entire time you have been here. You constantly make fun and tear others and myself apart. You obviously have some unresolved angry.
I think is all for the best. Hiring Zaks, and taking more time off to fix the show. Sounds like they will be listening to all of the reviews, and hopefully the show will be better when it opens in New York.

You didn't really predict anything, unless predict means something besides predict.
Actually I did, I am predicting (expecting) that certain changes I mentioned will happen.
DCR + TAF = MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Carry on.
P
I'm seeing the show on January 9th in Chicago, then seeing the final performance of "Jersey Boys" the next day. Looking forward to it!
nealb1, so jealous you got tickets to the final Jersey Boys! Sounds like a fun weekend!
Lake, thanks so much! I'm looking forward to seeing both shows. I'm hoping that Chicago doesn't get hit with a big snow storm next weekend when I'm there. Fingers crossed!!!
I'm front row Mezz for "Jersey" and 8th row Center Orch for "Addams."
As awful as people are making the show sound it still makes for an enjoyable night at the theatre. Does the show have flaws? Hell yeah it does! But, it's still a lot of fun.
It's interesting on this board. And, I'm sure you have experienced it as well. There are a few people on the board, who always demean.......to stir the pot and post negative, hear say, untrue things about shows and performers. What good comes from that? People have posted that they are glad when shows close, or that certain shows need to close. WHAT? How is putting people out of work a good thing? How is people not going to the theatre a good thing? I just don't get it.
Whenever I see a show.......any show, I walk in wanting to enjoy myself. So many people love to hate something.....because they "know it all." And, all the people who think that they know it all, don't know anything. They are limited, and come across completely foolish.
So, I'm looking forward to seeing "Addams." Is it "My Fair Lady" or "Hamlet?" Of course not - it's not supposed to be. It's supposed to be fun and entertaining.

Yeah, I don't get it. Despite the flaws the show had I don't wish it bad luck. I hope them bringing on Zaks makes this show into the hit it can be.
As someone up there said, they can hardly have an idea of what changes and how much time they will need, my guess is that Zacs has another obligation at that crucial time and they are working around that and it buys some time, but it also costs money.
I don't see Zacs turning this show around, most of his latest offerings have been very safe and bland, ODD COUPLE, LA CAGE...
I think the authors and original creators were going for something different, from what i have read, Zacs may make the show more "popular" or not, but the original flavor could be lost.
There is talent galore in the cast, I don't think they will replace anyone, if they do it will make a good story.
I dont think tha preview cancellation has anything to do with Zaks' schedule. He was already committed to "All About Me" during that time and he's been released from that obligation so there wouldn't be yet another conflict. As I've said, I'm betting it's just about giving him a little more time since the changes are now seemingly going to be a bit more significant than they might have contemplated when they first formulated their schedule and put tickets on sale (which was back in September).
After being placed on hold for over 35 minutes with ticketmaster last night, I successfully exchanged the tickets I had for March 4th for the new first preview date of March 8th...hopefully, the date won't change again!
I think it's funny how MusicSnob called Drunk Chita 'DRS.' There's a slight difference between Drunk Chita Rivera and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Anyway... I don't think they'll be replacing any actors, either, as all of the reviews were very favorable to the cast, and it's a pretty star-studded group anyway. But if they do, I will not be happy. I think canceling a few previews will be positive in the long run-- Shrek's another show I think could have used a little bit more trimming before it opened on Broadway.

Changed my mind.....it's really just not worth it.

I will be seeing it on March 31 night show. What are the chances of it being cancelled? I'm praying that it won't be because it will be so close to opening night.
