I offer my opinion about theater and don't accept ridiculous, verbal abuse from other people. Asinine name calling for no reason, mocking people for being new, calling people wrong because their opinion differs from your own? You people do all of those things. All the time.

I hope that Tiny's rather annoying thread isn't affecting people's perception of this show. I posted in the, you know, existing thread. And this (perhaps well meaning) but overbearing OP shouldn't color your perception of this show. Unlike, you know, Wicked fansgirls.

I'm still in such a great mood from last night's performance. Anyway, I hope that discussion of the show's merits continues in the real thread and not in this takedown of Tiny.

I'm sort of glad that this thread has been thread jacked by people fighting with each other because the original post is the most blatant and obvious shilling that I have seen in a long time. I hope the producer ain't paying that intern because he or she needs to go to Shill School.

Joins on the same day she/he posts an over the top gushing rave that nears hysterics.

Caps and a million punctuation marks in the title.

Calls it perfect five times in a row (is anything perfect, really?).

Says she/he is going back right away and taking friends.

I mean, come on. If you're gonna shill, at least br a little less obvious about it.

@Matt Rogers, et al.....honestly I am NOT a shill, but in my haste to write on this board upon arriving home in the glow of the joy of this show, I forgot to do a "search", had no idea there was an original thread, which I later found out, and apologize if I have offended anyone who's posted on this thread...

To tell you the truth, someone stated here that I sounded like a 13 yr old girl screaming to school friends...well, I'm 59, but the show
DID make me feel alive and like I was 13 again. So, I guess the shoe fits. As for the caps, I'm sorry, I kinda got carried away with enthusiasm...if that is so wrong, I guess I'm wrong.

I am never offended by what anyone writes in response, naysayers and fans alike. my original INTENT was just to convey my sense of happiness after witnessing this show.

The Orig. Post written by WHIZZER was spot on imho.

Again, no hard feelings..i just re joined yesterday due to a glitch in my original THETINYMAGIC acct, so for those who may know me from the last 8 yrs, I have nothing to hide, am not a shill,and that's it.

If my post makes you want to see the show and youenjoy as much as I, I will be happy for you. Is that so wrong????

What's annoying about it? She raved about the show, just as you have, and just as others have in the other thread.

So the OP failed to do a search to see if a previous thread existed on this show. Big deal. What's more, she apologized for it. Let's note as well that Fun Home has had multiple threads, as did Follies, Into the Woods, and Sunday in the Park, the latter having had several on the same page. All causing not the slightest consternation among their devotees.

So what's the problem here?

I have no problem expressing my opinion in this thread. It's an entertaining evening, with some standout dancing, lovely costumes, and great music played by a terrific band.

Show is pretty good. I saw first preview, and saw again last week. Went from "B" to "A-" and i will see again after it opens. A song and dance show that I really appreciated on many levels. Saw another show too this past week, FUN HOME, which was brilliant. Smaller, beautiful. What a good week for theater.

Is this more of a musical revue or is there a plot intertwined to the music?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

no plot whatsoever. Strictly a musical revue. 26 songs, no intermission, 90 minutes of joy. Almost like a vaudeville type structure- singers, dancers, specialty acts, soft shoe, type, ballet, torch, ballad, by really gifted performers. And the stage scenery, and costumes are gorgioso. Wynton Marsalis's jazz all star 16 pc magnifico band on stage. Seeee? I can type w/o SCREAMINGI hope you like it ,dramamamma. Bring binocsif you're in the rear mezz and want to see their faces, although not necessary.

After Eight - I wasn't attacking Miss "Tiny", but this thread had quickly devolved into a pile-on and investigation into her true motives. Stupid stuff. I was just telling people not to let the muck of this thread affect their perceptions of this WONDERFUL show. I actually appreciated Tiny's enthusiasm - even if her review could use a few less exclamation points.

Dame - I somehow missed that Fantasia tweet-gate stuff. Probably becuase she had no cultural relevance to my life. That's a damn shame, because she is wonderful in this show. I'm about to catch a plane, so I don't have time to look this up, but perhaps there was a mea culpa or public apology. KD Lang has a lovely voice and Toni Braxton has some nice wigs, but neither of them is going to give you renditions of these classic songs as richly fun and soulful as Fantasia gave. And this is coming from someone who doesn't give a toss about Idol and couldn't have named a Fantasia song if he had a gun to his head.

thanks, Horse... yes, I kinda agree re Fantasia...I hardly know who she is, but sometimes you have to separate the talent from the real life. Kinda like my love for Woody Allen films and my hatred for his (imho) perverted personal life. iT S obvious that Fantasia has been rigorously trained in this show, everything from the way she moves, her essence of old school torch/ballad singing, and her love for what she's doing/ The only thing I do NOT like are all those tattoos. Why are these not covered with makeup in the show It IS kinda distracting with the ultra glamorous gowns she's wearing. Fantasia will succeed in the future if she sticks with jazz/blues singing instead of pop, imho. She is young and needs the right mentors. I actually think you will be quite surprised by her perf., DAME. You seem to be an appreciator of natural talent. She's very well directed.

@Horse.. She did give a semi apology. And then her management quickly booked her to perform at Long Beach Pride. But since this is not her first time blurting anti gay comments, and since I have formed a opinion about her from the few episodes I watched of her reality show I am choosing not to spend any money on her endeavors.

@Dame: Ah, now I see what you mean. As I don't pay attention to too much Hollywood, reality show gossip, I have been blissfully unaware of this Fantasia thing. That being said, I think these young performers should really keep their mouths shut, educate themselves with proper mentors and concentrate on their careers only. Twitter and
FB and this other social media nonsense may be good for "publicity", but I think it does more harm than good. It's too bad you have decided not to see her in the show, because I DO respect your point of view, DAME, but she only has 4 numbers and 3 are truly blockbusters..amazing. Maybe you'll change your mind... click 3 times and pretend it's somebody else singing?!

I just have to comment here about Fantasia. You can do all the research you want, but, she is not anti gay. She made an ill advised comment, because she was frustrated that she gets picked on for everything that happens in her life. Its a long list of things that she gets bashed for that other recording artists get a free pass. Her long time manager and best friend Brian is gay. Fantasia doesn't always express herself clearly, and people jump all over her for anything that is said. If you want to personal message me I can give you more details. She really is a loving person. Its a shame that something said out of frustration is taken the wrong way.

I am going to the show next week and am excited because I loved Sophisticated Ladies way back in the day. My whole family is looking forward to it because they love Jazz music.

I dont post here alot, but I am a regular theatregoer and consider myself very knowledgeable about shows, having choreographed and danced my whole life.

So please don't bash me for defending Fantasia.

Oh for goodness sake. Form your own opinion . I have read and heard her comments and saw some of her reality show. I find her offensive and for the record, Sara Palin also claims to have gay friends and gay employees.

And no bashing on my part. Enjoy the show.

Dame-give her a week and you can see the show without her. I wonder when she will get "sick". No lie, when my friend was going to see Color Purple, they Saw Tasia being escorted to her car 30 minutes before curtain. They said, "Fantasia, we're coming to see you!" She said, "Im sorry I be sick." Needless to say Tasia was out that show.
