A musical about Tallulah Bankhead entitled TALLULAH that starred Helen Gallagher in the 1980's. I believe it was recorded. It ran Off-Broadway.
Blood Brothers?! Sorry, I know it was already said but thats hardly an unknown musical...it also happens to be one of my favorites.

One night flop entitled RAINBOW JONES that played The Music Box in the 1970's. Dreadful. Another 70's bomb - RIDE THE WINDS - I left after the first act. A musical about the birth of Hawaii called HEATHEN - Another one nighter. I was at the opening. The year was 1972.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVED "Inappropriate." I saw it twice off-Broadway and still listen to the cast album occasionally. I wish it had gotten a wider audience.
I wonder what Diane Schwartz (I think that's her name) is up to? I thought she was supremely talented - a very emotional performer. I'd love to see more of her.
How about that opera about that guy who wears a mask and is in love with that girl and not much happens? I heard about it once a long time ago but I don't remember what it was called.
((I'm totally j/k, I realize the joke isn't funny ;P Although is it funny to make fun of how unfunny something is?))
There's a musical based on the Evil Dead movies.

"Little By Little", "A New Brain", and "Zombie Prom" are all ones I've heard of, but don't know much about. We almost did "Zombie Prom" at my school a year or so back.
I'd say "The Last Five Years" or "Bat Boy", but it seems that the only people who haven't heard of those really are the kids at school and such. :p

hearts.pocky - I would say those shows are "unknown" to the general public, hence why no one at your school knows about them. I feel your pain!
Anyways, has the musical "Preppies" been recorded and / or is there anyway to hear the show?
Also, can anyone make a list of the "unknown" musicals that have recordings? Its cool to know about them, but I'd love to listen to them as well. thanks.
I forgot Rainbow Jones. I saw that as well as the one with Joanne Worley I believe " The Prince of Central Park "
Out of the Blue - a love story set against the backdrop of the Nagaski H-bombing. Closed after 17 performances in London...
what about "Metropolis" (based on the silent movie) or "Marry Me a Little"
Around BWW, there's no such thing... unless it never was produced.
Too many people "in the know" here.
Boomers.
It's a new musical that made it's debut here in Nashua, NH a year or two ago, written by a man in NH. It's got a strong book that needs work on it. The score is good. It will be Broadway material in a few years.
It's takes place during the Vietnam War. It's quiet good.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person around here who remembers William Finn's Romance in Hard Times (aka America Kicks Up Its Heels), a beautiful show that featured Lillias White, Alix Korey, Peggy Hewett and Cleavant Derricks, among others. It also spawned two of Finn's most well-known songs, "All Fall Down" and "That's Enough for Me". Unfortunately, it was never recorded.

Several of the shows I thought of seem to be a lot more popular than I realized, such as HONK! and Bat Boy.
I don't know if you can find it, but Convenience is a really great show.
"Stage Door Canteen" (the ONLY Charles Busch show I can stand)

If you thrive on obscure shows and don't already have a Samuel French catalogue, you must get one. It's great to read through it just to hear about shows like "Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens" and "What's A Nice State Like You... Doing In A Country Like This?"
