Aren't these guys big enough names? This seems shocking to me...
This economy is scary right now.

Yes, this is surprising. Will it be eligible for Tony Awards? I don't know how many performances it will reach by then, and I don't know if the nominating committee will have seen the show. I mean, not saying that it deserves to win something, I'm just thinking about the ineligibility of Glory Days last season.

I was starting to think that the New York Times didn't have much of an effect anymore, especially on star-driven productions.
I was wrong. Huh.

Posted: 11/19/08 at 5:24pmHeyMrMusic, a new play called SIXTEEN WOUNDED opened and closed in a week a few seasons ago, and it got a Tony Nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play, so I'm sure this production will be eligible.

Posted: 11/19/08 at 5:29pmAm I counting right? It will have played 9 performances?

That's what I counted. As I remember, the ruling for Glory Days said that to be eligible, it would have needed to be on Broadway for 8 performances. Foster may be right and it may be eligible. But I guess we won't know until the committee meets.

Posted: 11/19/08 at 5:43pmIf it were eligible the only thing I could possibly remotly see it get nominated for besides design elements would be cedric for featured actor.

Posted: 11/19/08 at 5:47pmVery disappointing. I know the critics weren't crazy about it, but it's speaking volumes that producers aren't willing to cut a little slack. Just another sign of the economic climate, I guess.

Bad reviews
Bad economy
Bad theater - Belasco - Bad location & rep but lovely theater.
It is a shock that it was so soon but I guess they felt why prolong it.It is the weakest of mamet's works so failing huge stars to pump up B.O., it had an uphill fight.

WHOA! Thanks for the heads-up... totally unfortunate for the producers and stars.
Just nabbed tickets to Saturday's 8PM show on TDF. Get them while they're hot... ish...

They should rename the Belasco the Bialystock & Bloom theatre. Open a show there & it is bound to be a flop.

Yowch.
When was the last time the Belasco had a hit show? I'm sure they must have had one, but I'm totally blanking on any.

Not very surprised by this actually...
But it's sad to see another one bite the dust.

Wow, that was fast! I was hoping to see this but only for John Leguizamo because I think he's amazing in everything he does.
Maybe I still might try this weekend.

Posted: 11/19/08 at 7:43pmThe Belasco has had a few very successful limited runs, though not recently I suppose. I'm thinking of Ralph Fiennes in Hamlet and Janet McTeer in A Doll's House (man, that was breathtaking).More recently, wasn't Awake and Sing! there? I really love that theater, reputation aside.
