From a lot of what I've read, I'm sure the show is much better than this trailer suggests. "Lackluster" was the first word that came to mind. This trailer does nothing...

I respectfully disagree- this trailer only adds to my excitement for this production. It looks beautiful.

Shouldn't they be using music from AN AMERICAN IN PARIS in the trailer?
That's what is better about the second trailer...recognizable music. I still think they're making it look like a museum piece instead of FUN. We'll see. Doesn't seem to be much interest at least by the looks of this thread...

That second trailer actually tempts me to see a show I had dismissed as yet another cynical rehash of Gershwin and an MGM musical. Looks spectacular but I'm a bit gun-shy after the dud ON THE TOWN
I think the trailer emphasizes that this is much more of a ballet piece - than "traditional" musical theatre. Understandable as the diretor/choreographer and two leads are from the ballet world. I am intrigued by the trailers (and the words from Paris) and if we were coming to NY - would probably go so see this.
But, the problem may be that there are people who don't want to see ballet and if they wanted to see ballet, they'd go to the ballet. So, the potential audience may be limited.
That said - it is a very popular movie- so who knows? .
Short preview performance.

Thank you, that's all I needed.
I dunno about this one. Wasn't the buzz from Paris like, REALLY good?

That's what has me worried. I need to see people sing and not just open their mouths for a few seconds in the trailer. I think the movie is fine. Or, it averages out to fine. There are some fantastic musical numbers but the plot is weak (and more than a little creepy) and that last ballet goes on forever. I'm trying to get more into ballet but abstract, unmotivated dancing doesn't really hold my attention that well.
Getting more and more excited for this.

Thank you ggersten for posting that video - a bare bones performance without staging, lighting, etc and only a piano. Wow! The last song "For Me" had me in tears, not to mention the actor himself. I believe this young man was featured in the NYT a couple of Sundays ago. Very moving! I'm a Gershwin die-hard and believe this show will check all the right boxes. I predict the ballet to Gershwin music will be icing on the cake. Seeing this show at end of April and VERY excited after viewing this video! Thanks for posting.
ELP - there is another clip from the same preview performance. It is of S'Wonderful.
