I searched it, but I couldn't find anything. Anyway, that thread was mostly about Wicked, and no one on that thread mentioned that there was a remake of JCS in 2000. That is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too soon to make a remake. So, why? I'm actually quite excited about Wicked, if it's cast right.

Because they can.... Why does anyone do something? BECAUSE THEY WANT TOO.

But, most people wouldn't want to see a movie that was just remade in 2000.

I would LOVE to see this while Ted Neeley is still young enough to pull it off.
Plus there could be some great casting:
Amy Winehouse as Mary
Elton John or Sean Hays as Herod
John Travolta as Pilate
O. J. Simpson as Judas

Actually after his brilliant turn at drag, I think Travolta should play Mary!
Perhaps ALW will write a new surprise ending! Or better yet a sequel!

Mary's big number, if they cast Travolta could be "Welcome to the A.D.s"

It would only be justified if they cast Tony Vincent as Judas to correct the egregious error made for the 2000 film version. Otherwise I don't see the point.

I've seen the previous two films, but I'd go see this version also just to see what was different about the most recent film.

The film will be nothing unless it casts Lindsey Lohan as Jesus.

People will call us insane, SueleenGay (maybe you were being sarcastic--I don't give a ****). But I do think that Ted could (and should) do it again. Am I insane? Surprisingly, research says no.
http://jesuspolice.com/common_error.php?id=9 and http://jesuspolice.com/common_error.php?id=18 bear me out on this: Ted is perfectly alright, and indeed probably closer to accurate, playing Jesus at 65 than some of the young ones who do the role today. Plus, he's still got the talent in buckets.

He's twice as old as Jesus ever got to be, and already preserved on film in the role once. Is he the only man allowed to be Jesus? Are we never going to see this show again once he retires or worse?
EDIT: I've now read those links. I find them interesting reading (and will probably spend the erst of the afternoon surfing that site XD), but would point out that most audiences of this film won't be scholars, won't have read that site, and will be expecting an early 30s Jesus and liable to get cranky if you try and present scholarly truth. EDIT OVER
I've not been paying much attention, I confess, but is this proposed remake for the big screen or TV? 'Cos as the 2000 remake was a TV movie, it seems perfectly fair game for either adaptation to go ahead. It's not "too soon!!!" since the last big screen adaptation for a big screen adaptation, and I'm fairly sure that TV movie years are shorter than big screen movie years, so there's nothing wrong with a 10 year gap.
By the way, why did no one inform me that musicaltheaterfan3 is the one who gets to decide whether it's TOO SOON for a movie or not? I've got serious emotional scarring here that needs to smack him about for okaying 'United 93'.

I believe this is the single funniest comment I've ever read on this board.

Um, I wouldn't mind.

They can do the vaseline on the lens technique they did with Lucille Ball in Mame on him for the close ups... that I think would work.

The 2000 was almost equivalent to a video recording of a stage show, using minimal sets and not really defining a location.
And in my opinion, rather badly done.
And as previously stated, this was not a feature film.
This is a great show and I would adore a remake.

I kind of wish Sir Andrew was writing a sequel to JCS instead of Phantom. Set it today with the second coming and have Jesus face off with the likes of Fred Phelps and Pat Robertson. Now THAT I would pay to see...if someone else wrote it.
PEACE.

"But, most people wouldn't want to see a movie that was just remade in 2000."
Well most people didn't see the remake in 2000. It was never released in cinemas. And the VHS/DVD release was never publicized. Add to that, the fact that the 2000 movie version wasn't a remake of the original film, but a horribly misguided attempt for Gale Edwards to recreate her West End production on film (albeit with a less talented cast,) and it seems like the perfect time for another big screen interpretation of JCS. Its one of the few musicals that inherently appeals to the mainstream. Rock music that younger generations can relate to, and the nostalgia factor for the older generations (the original film was very popular) put those together and you have the ingredients for a very successful movie musical, one that would make money and help to solidify the genera as a legitimate investment in the current entertainment industry.

What do you mean by that? I found out about it and bought it then...it's sitting around this house somewhere - watched once or twice.
Definitely time for a remake, though I still love the original...
