I'd rather see a Hugh Jackman/Russell Crowe/Aaron Tveit orgy behind the baracade.

Love this casting! (But I'm a Tveit fan.)
Not surprised by the reaction here. Any time a performer has very "enthusiastic" fans, the performer themself becomes the object of scorn here on BWW (there was a time when Idina Menzel was generally well-liked here). It also tends to happen when certain performers begin to experience some success outside of the medium of theater, as Tveit has recently.
As for his casting, I think he'll be swell. He's got the look for the role, and he can certainly sing it.

Well, at least my eyes will enjoy the film now even if my ears will not. Although, I think he'll do well vocally, too.
I am also afraid though that he'll make Marius look like less of a heartthrob. I'm not sure why they didn't cast him as Marius, to be honest.
Aaron may come off too cocky and confident for some, which can work to an advantage for Enjolras, but would be deadly for Marius.
SO happy for Aaron! Can't wait for this movie now!
Wasn't expecting this at all and I couldn't be happier.
If I wasn't excited for this film before, I sure am now! The casting seems to be coming together very nicely, and I'm sure Aaron will do a great job in this role.

I'm just glad they picked someone who could sing. Enjolras is a more challenging role than Marius. The role earned a Tony Award, after all. It could be worse, they could have chosen Zac Efron or Chace Crawford.
Is it really pigeonholing to say that an actor's voice and a character's voice are mismatched in terms of range, color, and style?
I've seen Les Miserables many times with many casts. Not every Enjolras has sounded the same. It's not a huge role, so I really don't see this as a big deal. And for film, a big booming belt is not really required (Helena Bonham Carter). As far as musical film casting goes, this is one of the least offensive choices I've seen.
Are people seriously freaking out about the quality of Aaron Tveit's singing of the role of Enjolras when Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe are playing Valjean are Javert???
What bizarro world have I stepped into today???

Only on BWW would an actor with Broadway musical credits get cast in the film version of a Broadway musical and then be accused by a smug asshat of getting the job because he blew someone.

Robbie: because that's already been going on for months. This is the newest thing.
I'm definitely with Robbie and Phyllis on this. I really don't get it.

Me too. I don't get it, either.
It's just something new to bitch about. Business as usual.
I was a little surprised at the criticism, too.
Cast big name stars, it's too Love Boat.
Cast largely unknown Broadway actors, that's not acceptable, either.
Maybe they should just make it with Muppets...
The average punter will not know who Aaron Tveit is, you need a star name to pull people in to the movie theatres.

Uh, they have two: Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.

But you already have star names in the cast - Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe (and I guess Anne Hathaway is pretty widely known too), not every principal role has to be a star name.

I hear Bamatabois will be played by Tom Hanks. Anthony Hopkins was cast as Fauchelevent and Tom Cruise as Claquesous. Jodie Foster plays Whore #4.
SO ORIGINAL!
I HEARD JUSTIN BIEBER IS GAVROCHE.
Am I doing it right?!

Lizzie,
In case you didn't get it, that was sarcasm over them "it needs big stars" comment
I dislike his cast because he looks and sounds too pop for my taste and he's short. Doesn't look like the Enjolras I had in mind. Hope he can prove me wrong.

You heard wrong. He will be playing Young Cosette.
