Aaron Tveit to Star as Danny Zuko in Fox's GREASE LIVE! — Page 2

Weren't those already sanitized for the last two revivals?
Posted: 7/9/15 at 2:28pm
I thought SH*T and Pussywagon were in the last revival. I may be wrong.
Auggie, I get what you're saying, but Tveit did an episode of SVU where he played a junkie former basketball star who is very...urban. Very white-guy-speaking-black. And I thought he was terrific in the episode. I know it's strange to point to an SVU guest spot as the distinctive piece of work, but I was really impressed by him.

The first casting that remotely peaks my interest. Groff would have made a nice Kenickie I think.
This whole thing, much like every version of GREASE since the film (it seems), is a crazy mess. I'll definitely be watching though, hopefully I don't fall asleep like I did with PETER PAN.

"Weren't those already sanitized for the last two revivals?"
I didn't see either of those. I wasn't going to listen to Rosie O'Donnell bellow through "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" and I generally don't like shows that are cast by talent shows.

I always thought Pussy Wagon was two words!
Posted: 7/9/15 at 2:59pm
I checked on YouTube. Both revivals said "sh*t" and "tit" but both said "dragon wagon."

I think Jeremy Jordan would have been a better choice. Just sayin.

I wish they would ask Adrienne Barbeau to do Miss Lynch.

Jeremy will be on a CBS show this fall, FOX wouldn't want to promote an actor on a rival network. They however did cast Nick Jonas who will be on their own show Scream Queens.

Andrea Martin as the principal.
Posted: 7/9/15 at 3:27pm
The principal is not in the stage show (except, perhaps, in bowdlerized trashy versions).

So Stockard Channing wouldn't be too old to play Rizzo in this cast?

"The principal is not in the stage show (except, perhaps, in bowdlerized trashy versions)."
Sorry, I have only seen it live once at a dinner theater in Philly YEARS ago (had a friend in the cast). I know the movie better.

Pretty much how I feel. And I don't actually think Tveit is too old for the role, either; I honestly always thought part of the humor was that the T-Birds look way too old to be in high school, as if they've been too lazy to pass classes.
And re: his golden-boy image, I have one word for you: Graceland. (SPOILERS just in case!)
Starts out as FBI by-the-book perfection, currently has a possible painkiller addiction, a murder coverup in his recent past, and a classic beard (or scruff) of angst.

Sunny 11, since when is Nick Jonas doing Grease?

"I honestly always thought part of the humor was that the T-Birds look way too old to be in high school, as if they've been too lazy to pass classes."
The original intention of the Broadway musical was to be a parody of high school and the 1950s. But after the movie, it became "real" and that's when people started criticizing the age of the actors. I'd prefer to see a production that goes back to the original parody tone.

At least he can sing, but he's SO miscast.

What are you guys talking about? Miss Lynch is indeed a character in the original musical she's the English teacher instead of the principal and not nearly the size of the character portrayed by Eve Arden in the film. Who will make the cameo Penney Marshall? Michelle Pheiffer?

I think Aaron Tveit as Danny is GREAT casting!! He's gonna be so good!!
Posted: 7/9/15 at 5:48pm
They're setting this version in graduate school.

I know I'm in the minority opinion on this one, but Aaron kind of bores me. I don't know, maybe I've never seen the right interview or performance of his, but I always just feel a lack of personality from him. This whole cast so far bores me, honestly, which is sad since I like Grease so much, but who knows, maybe they'll surprise me, since I know I won't be able to stay away from watching it.

I've never been much of a fan of him (he was highly disappointing in the Les miserable film) but he is talented and will certainly get the job done. It's not a very difficult role to play.

And let the compulsive fangirling commence...I'm surprised Tumblr. hasn't crashed yet.
All joking aside, I think he's a good choice. He's certainly got the heartthrob quality, and a great voice!

He'll be shirtless, right?
