A few hours ago I heard something on the radio about the possibility of an Actor's Equity strike after a contract expires June 27th.
On a shallow, personal note, June 27th is the day before June 28th and June 28th is the day my Adam returns to AIDA. I'll be really sad if this happens.
Back to the big picture... does anyone know any details about this that they can share? It was a pretty short thing on the radio, and I was driving so I didn't really pay full attention.

theres a story about it linked up top on the headlines thing.
It'll never happen, there is too much to lose on everyone's part. Someone will give.

Depends on how much the two sides piss each other off. If the musicians could shut down Broadway, why not the actors?
That said, I really hope this doesn't happen. I'm really looking forward to watching a lot of shows before I have to go back to school.
I truly hope things do get worked out soon. A strike would be terrible for the Theater Industry and for New York City.
I have a friend who is in both AEA and the costumer's union. She's been working as a dresser for the last couple of months to earn enough time with the costumer's union, just in case of a long strike. She's afraid she'll lose her benefits. So that's one illustration of someone who's battening down the hatches in advance of what could be a nasty storm.
Wow, she is in Equity AND gets benifits? Who knew?

First off, I'm relieved to hear the deadline's after June 20. At least Millie will get to say it's good-byes.
That said, as a union member myself, I'm in total support of AE's demands (see Playbill.com). When I heard they no longer get dental coverage, I just don't get it! Right now I'm looking at my smiling pictures of me with Sutton Foster and Gavin Creel, and they have perfect teeth! They're still young, and I hope their teeth get to stay that way when they get to be my age (54).
the musicians had a little more leverage because they have a much higher employment rate than the actors. with the level of unemployment among equity actors, i doubt they'd go to such lengths of shutting down broadway. if the stage managers ever strike, everyone's screwed!

Stage Manager are members of AEA. And as much as I hope it does not happen. I feel that there is a very good possibility of a strike.
I am not sure I would agree with your assessment of the musicians' and their strike. Leverage is something they totally *didn't* have last year, the producers were offering *nothing* when it came to the bargaining table, and yet, despite the outcome, there is still a chance that the pit sizes will shrink in the coming years. Regardless, for what it's worth, I stand firm behind Equity and their demands and hope the Musicians' Union does the same.
I saw this on the news yesturday =-(

If there's a strike, does anybody know if Kristen will still go on?

I don't want a strike, but I want the actors to get what they deserve in this contract... a lot of people think that we actors are silly for wantings uch and such.. but they don't work in shows and they don't know what it takes.. and they don't know the abominable state of Equity benefits today....
ALTHOUGH..... if a strike would stop Adam Pascal from getting back ona Broadway stage... I am all for it!

I read a little bit more about it today. I probably shouldn't have posted having hardly any information. Anyway, I hope that everyone gets what they deserve, but I also hope the strike doesn't happen - for reasons other than Adam Pascal's schedule. Come on guys, you know I'm not *that* shallow. That said... shame, shame BG2.

My thought.. ditch the Pascal and give it to Cheyenne.. or bring back Blake and give me Link!

the summer months are the most damaging if they decide to strike...and would mean that shows like The Frogs would go on the shelf until things were resolved, thereby screwing up everyone's life from the tourist to the New York summer theater goer...to the equity actors out of work, to the musicians, etc.
Here's hoping they can resolve their differences.

...actually, The Frogs is on a different contract with Lincoln Center (LORT) therefore unaffected by a potential strike. The show will go on there.

Any1 have any new updates about this??
but there has been some discussion about going out in support of other shows...except that they would get their butts sued off and I'm not sure that any non-profit could really afford that...so...they'll probably stay.
There are still other shows that will suffer a lot though...this is a no win and the city can't afford to lose the funds. They sent a letter to Bloomberg on 6/25. Sure hope he reads it and adds some support to negotations.
