I read about a few actors who miss multiple performances. Once they use up their vacation time, do they just not get paid? How much vacation do leads normally get in a year?
Like any other job, you have counted 'sick days' which you will be paid for. Once those are up, any performance you miss... you don't get paid. Period.
Like most jobs, actors have to 'clock in'/sign-in when they arrive for work and also when they leave. These daily logs are submitted each week to Actor's Equity and for payroll purposes, etc.
That's just you assuming that when they are not performing is because they are vacationing. They can be sick, have personal problems, etc.
Vacation times for leads are negotiated with the production, but is not unusual for Broadway performers to have a week vacation for a 6 month contract.

Actors do not clock in and out like that. There is a sign in sheet, which is how stage management makes sure that everybody made it in to the theatre at half hour, and isn't stuck on a train somewhere or just plain missing. That's all it's used for, there is no signing out.
At the end of the week the PSM submits the payroll for cast and stage management, which indicates who missed performances and the reason (so that company management can figure out if they should be docked or not). But generally that info is taken from the performance reports, not from the sign in sheet.
I'm pretty sure that actors get vacation time & personal days. However, unlike the standard 9AM-6PM every week day job, being an actor is one of those jobs that requires a life commitment because the jobs only last for a while. It's like a work really really hard and then have nothing to do job.
