I was curious if anyone has ever seen any actors put ego aside from the good of the show. Example, do you know of anyone who maybe has been laid off or fired from a show for artistic reasons, by may have still shown up to support the show anyway like on OPENING NIGHT or otherwise?

Well, recently Nikki Snelson sent best wishes to all, on her FACEBOOK wall when WONDERLAND opened and again when it closed.

Patti LuPone went to see Les Misérables on Broadway after turning down the role of Fantine.

She also went back to see the London Production of Sunset Boulevard after being fired.

Patti also went to the opening night of the 2006 London revival of Evita where she was pictured with Elaine Paige and Elena Roger. I thought that was great of her to do that

^ those pictures were from the anniversary celebration for Les Mis, not opening night of Evita.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

Julie Andrews declined her Tony nomination for Victor/Victoria because she didn't feel that she should be the only person recognized (and probably because of the rest of the show being snubbed she may have felt that she was only getting the nomination because of who she was).

She also made snarky comments about both productions when she was not in them. Patti LuPone and putting ego aside should never be uttered in the same breath.

Actually Patti often speaks positively about her time in Les Mis and called it a perfect theatrical experience (or something of that nature). I've never seen her make a snarky comment about the show.

And in an interview with Playbill this week, Sutton Foster said that Patti came to see the current revival of Anything Goes and went backstage afterwards to congratulate Sutton on her performance.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Tommar Wilson was in the front row for closing night of WONDERLAND as well. He was fired after the world premiere as well.

I'm not really sure how that type of action shows putting one's ego aside.

Or how NOT attending would suggest that it's about ego at all.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
