He never said that he didn't enjoy or appreciate performing in musicals. He stated that they paid the bills. BIG difference!
He has said that he doesn't listen to show tunes. He shouldn't be made out to be disrespectful because show tunes isn't his favorite style of music! GOODNESS!
Some of you are stating that other people with more "passion" could have had his roles.... PLEASE! It's not about passion... It's about talent!
Also, would Cheno, Menzel, Cheyenne, or Orphe be considered "dissing" Broadway because they have wanted and done television, pop and holiday albulms, and concerts with non-show tunes? PLEASE!
Adam has dreams... as do ALL performers. Reality is that they would take anything to pay the bills and perform in a variety of venues while persuing their dreams.
I concur, thanks.
And as for sitting across the table from him in the future?
Producers won't care what he said on American Idol.... they will only care about whether or not he will put warm paying bodies in the seats, money in their pockets, talent in each performance and is not a Diva-Piven that will flake out on them.

He's still an ass for burning bridges. He seems ungrateful the way he spoke.
He doesn't stand a chance of winning anyway.
The 10-13 year old girls who vote their fingers to nubs for 2 solid hours after each show will not be voting for a sexually threatening, urban, eye-linered, gay, 27 year old man singing songs they never heard of from groups they never heard of. He's pretty 1973.
The other big voting contingent--menopausal women, will keep him on for a few weeks entertainment, while he eyef***s them through their TVs, while they deny he is gay. He'll go out somewhere around 7th place.
The hate for a man you don't know is TOO CUTE!
Ummmmm what Charlie?
Yeah! It's really cute. Just like you, baby.

With the show tunes comment, I watched the video and got the distinct feeling that it was intended to mock the idea of listening to show tunes for leisure. He was not asked about what he listens to or about whether or not he listens to show tunes. If you had alot of time lying around like me, feel free to watch the video and draw your own conclusion.
As for the comparisons to the Chenos and Idinas, I don't think they are fair comparisons. These Broadway stars were respected, never criticized, for their theater roots in their TV/Film/Recording projects. So at the same time, they never had to distance themselves from the careers they had on Broadway. Just a few months ago Cheno was belting out a classic show tune on prime time TV so she certainly isn't afraid of the general public "pegging" her as a theatrical singer.
I think what's cute is the fact that it's such a big issue and everyone is discussing a contestant that once this season is all said and done will be completely forgotten! He's not going to win, and as everyone else that's been on the show has learned, if you don't win it's hard to get lasting traction. In fact, even most of the winners have learned it's hard to get lasting traction! He'll appear on the show, he'll be signed and put out an album that sells a small number, the label will drop him, and then he'll be right back to the musical theater stage doing what he's always been doing. It happens EVERY year! Next year, no one will know who Adam Lambert is, except for maybe the few American Idol obsessed. That's American Idol for you! Updated On: 3/1/09 at 07:33 PM
He lit his bridge to Musical Theatre ablaze.
Adam is really a sweet guy. I've actually spoken to him at the LA stage door and told him how I'd die to hear him on some form of cast recording. Not only did he say "thank you, that's sweet" but he was very cute in adding "have someone write one for me," as he added a smile and a wink. He likes Broadway.
I don't know why everyone is all up in arms about this. In fact, I think he's simply trying to "distance" himself to make him more commercial. He's saying "I love to perform, it's all I want to do. I just wasn't able to do my own thing before." People, for whatever reason, are really put off by those who do Broadway-related things. Don't ask me why, but it's true. The ones that are the worst are the LA-type. Adam and I are both from LA, we should know. I'm sure he's only doing what he's been told to do if he wants to make it big--cut the ties!
I'm not saying he isn't a nice guy. I have never met him. All I am saying is that he seems very arrogant when it comes to his musical theatre past. This will sadly come back to bite him in the butt, most likely. I would give anything to be in a professional show...just in the ensemble...but to actually be able to play the male lead in WICKED for a handful of performances would be GREAT. I have no desire to have a recording contract and be a "star" but that's what they are looking for on American Idol.
Maybe his poor choice of words comes from the fact that he comes from a wealthy family who paid for him to have the very best in vocal coaching, acting lessons, and dance lessons, so maybe he feels he is "owed" something since he has had such expensive training? His story is not the "I worked my butt off to pay the bills while taking classes" that many people have, it's the "Mom and Dad gave me the very best ($$$) and I just want more".
I just think he didn't phrase things well, but he'll do just fine. He's got the chops.

Ugh, he's like an uglier version of the cute Jonas brother.
I can say his chance is shot.
Because of pictures that supposedly came from his own myspace page? He obviously didn't care if the world saw them before, why would he care now? And if America can't handle it and not support him for his talent, then that's the real tragedy.
Those pictures are NOT from his Myspace.

Where are the pictures from?
No idea, but not his Myspace.
ok, so obviously someone is trying to say they are from his page, I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Are you talking about me? If you are, I was being serious. I've been on his Myspace before he got involved with IDOL and those pictures were never there.
"how can you depend on the parents of the pre-teens to buy tickets for a gay artist?"
They have been doing it for years.
I'm suprised those drag pics are not in the New York Post.
