Arghhhh !!!! Why couldn't they do it in October, so I could see them too ????
Well yeah, that's basically the same things we discussed here 3 weeks ago when Anthony first announced it.
Oh, hm. I must have missed Anthony's announcement, obviously. Oops!

This is AWESOME!!! I'm so excited!
Well, I just got tickets for 8/4. I hope this pans out!
Any idea why Rent doesn't play Sunday matinees in August?

Don't get hopes up until it's formally announced.
Boy, times must be tough for Rent. Slowly but surely, they'll have the original cast again.
It's true. It'll probably be formally announced pretty soon.
Am I the only one out here who believes these two fellows, while blessings for the original, are a bit long in the tooth to be returning to roles they originated more than a decade ago? They just seem, well, too old now. Heck, even those cast in the first out-of-town production in Boston (October 1996) seemed five years younger than the OBC.

There have been (and currently are) actors in the show in the same age range as those two. It's just more blatant with them, because of how incredibly aware everyone is of their age, knowing how long ago they originated the roles.
It's a valid nitpick, but they're going to stick out as a two man freak show no matter how you slice it. I think their age is relatively low on the list of reasons why.
Wasn't the whole age thing the same argument a lot of people had when the movie was made? .... Next, thanks.
I have been a huge renthead for the past 7 years...so you think this should make me really excited...but its not. I don't really know why. I never saw the original cast, maybe I just want to keep the idea of the "legendary OBC" alive in my mind. Its weird for them to mix with the newer cast members too. I feel like the energy of the show has changed over the years. I am scared that Pascal and Rapp will not fit in. I'm nervous for them...

... does it really matter if they're going to truly fit in with the rest of the cast, though? Of course I'd prefer to see them to not blatantly stick out from the others, but as Craww said, I'm pretty sure they're inherently going to stick out from people like Troy Horne for a variety of reasons (mainly because they're "Adam and Anthony" and we're conscious of that). If you're purchasing tickets for August now, I'm guessing you're not going primarily to see Rent, you're going to see Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp in Rent. If they do somehow manage to really fit in with the rest of the cast, that's all icing on the cake to me. Updated On: 5/3/07 at 09:31 AM
I'm so excited about this! Oh my God, I've always wanted to see them live in the theatre version of the show! I never thought I'd get the chance to! I'm DEFINITELY going to see this!!
I love how he was just like "oh by the way, anthony and I are doing Rent this summer". This is pretty big Adam! lol
It will be either incredibly amazing and rejuvenating, or depressing in a sad-sack, one-last-hurrah kind of way. They're so much older now.
Oh, that's gonna be a fun lottery night. I'm there.
Actually this might work if the actress playing Mimi comes across older. The main relationships (yes, I know, it is about the relationships of all of them), in my opinion, are the Mark/Roger and Roger/Mimi relationships. If Mimi plays older, I think this will work.
And, Mark and Adam do play younger than their actual ages. He looks older in the movie because of the hair. Keep the hair short, there shouldn't be a problem, especially on stage where distance will be their friend.
The distance of the stage will be their friend. In the movie, they looked way too old for the parts, which made the characters kind of pathetic-to be that old and still meandering.
This news still makes me sad rather than excite me. I would rather see them in new roles rather than these old ones.
Hey Betty, perhaps Cher can play Mimi, huh?
The original cast of "Rent" gathers one more time!
haha That was pretty good!
Best, Mimi looks HOT!
Cher would be a great Mimi- "Take Me OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTT Tonight!"
Oh no ... its finally happened. The geriatric version of RENT ... maybe they've should now change the title to MORTGAGE, since they're so much older. These two talented guys were too old when they did the movie, they're certainly too old now, especially if the rest of the cast is (or appears to be) younger than them.
Count me in as one who's not as excited as she should be. While, yes, I'll obviously be going to see the two of them, I still haven't seen the show in over a year. I'd much rather go see Rent with two exceptionally talented people playing Mark and Roger than "Adam and Anthony" awkwardly trying to fit in with the rest of them. I also think at this point (and my mind could very easily change), I have more faith in Rapp pulling this off than Pascal.
Best12Bars, I really did LOL on that one. THANKS!
Worst kept secret. I knew about this like month ago.
