This is true, amasis. I have officially changed my mind to agree with you about him being old enough to keep things in perspective, but I don't fault him for knowing he's sexy, as some people think that's conceited.
It's one thing to be confident. It's another thing to look down on other people because you feel you're superior.
As an analogy, it's okay if I'm proud that I'm Asian. But if I'm proud that I'm Asian and I think this makes me superior to blacks, whites, hispanics, that's not okay. I'm only making this analogy based on how I interpreted Adam's comments re: the current Rent cast.
But like I said, I find his honesty more refreshing than someone who fakes nice. And I still wouldn't kick him outta my bed!

I like what you say about confidence and superiority, Tiff, but which is Adam in your opinion? Confident or superior? I didn't quite get your point.
I would tie him to the bed, that boy would never leave.
you all are making some good points... im glad we finally can have a thread where people arent getting all pissed off becuase someone doesnt agree with you.
as for this superior/confident thing... i view his coment about not wanting to do rent again with 'a bunch of kids' as him wanting to learn something new from the experience as opposed to being the teacher. and hes get a point about the OBC thing... theres just something magical about it-no other cast has had that energy and passion. maybe he just doesnt want to ruin the memory of the 1st time he was in rent by joining a cast that is a bit less than perfect and i totaly understand that. i can see where people are getting that he thinks hes too good for rent now, but i dont think thats true. i just think hes past that point in his life and is at the height of his career-he has so many options as a talented singer/actor and i respect him for wanting to challenge himself and try new things

I think I understand what you're trying to say, but I really don't think the analogy holds. We are not talking of a person who feels superior solely because he is in his mid-30s. In this case, we are talking about someone saying, in effect, 'I've been in this career for 9 or so years and I want to work with people who have more experience than me, not less.' That's a perfectly fair way of thinking. Many of us take this into consideration when we make career decisions. Perhaps people are annoyed with his choice of words? His sentiment makes perfect sense to me.

Agreed, amasis. I also think it makes sense that he'd want to do something new, not something old.

i saw it on broadway.com. i found the icon somewhere else though.
This thread can't die!
Anyway, yeah, I guess I would say that Adam, at least with the wording he used, came off as being arrogant. He *may* have meant to make it seem like he wanted to work with people more experienced than him, but his wording made him seem like he thinks he's just better.
As for my racial analogy, I didn't mean his age, just the difference between being proud or confident in yourself versus being proud of yourself at the expense of looking down on others.
I think Adam walks that very fine line. I want to believe I just misinterpreted what he meant to say. I still heart him.
I agree, Tiff. I've been known to joke that Adam's conceited and such, and of course I mean it only in the most loving of ways. I guess what I mean is that he knows how great he is, and he knows how much people love him. He's VERY aware of that. I think he does walk a VERY fine line between being confident and being conceited, but I also think he didn't work some of his thoughts particularly well. In addition, I do think he deserves the status he's gotten, whether it be in terms of his fan base, his success, or the people he's gotten to work with. He's really talented, and his come very far. I couldn't be happier for him, even if he is a little bit of a diva.

I can see a bit of conceit in the article, but can I have specific DivaAdam incidents? I don't believe I've ever heard any of these complaints, only heard people say that he's a diva in passing.
There aren't specific events that I can think or, per se. I think it's just more in his persona, the way he acts and carries himself. Don't get me wrong, he's a doll - he's just aware of what people think of him.
Yeah, no one incident, just a lot of things in passing, y'know, avoiding people, blowing off fans, etc. Nothing as bad as Idina what with the slamming doors, looking at people and then ignoring them.

Thanks for explaining. As for not meeting fans at the stagedoor, (if that's what you are refering to when you say blowing them off, Tiff) that doesn't bug me much. I pay to see them perform, if I meet them later, it's a nice bonus but I don't think it's a big deal if they decide to go home instead of signing things. They have lives too. *shrug* If he's rude about it, that's another story.
Definitely not rude. Just not there! It's understandable, though.
Doe's anyone else wanna see him as Billy Flynn in Chicago. I think he would be great. I really think theres a possibility this might happen once Aida closes. He already stated he would love to do Chicago, and now the Weisler's need to look into this. Because he could definetly help the shows grosses.

i want to see him as billy flynn!
I'd go.
Really, I think it's feasible, if he can handle the dancing. It'd be different, but I think it could work.
He danced in Cabaret. Why not Chicago!
Yeah, Billy dosen't have much dancing. Not nearly as much as Emcee.
I think his voice can handle the role, I wonder if he could do the "gun" note good.
I think he's too young to play Billy. (Somehow, the Daddy Complex just seems sexier. *shuddres at having uttered this sentence*)
He'd be cool as Seymour but I think the music doesn't do him justice. He'd rule as Orin though!
