Advance Word on Leap of Faith? — Page 2

I feel luvthe... may be only slightly blinded by her enthusiasm...As I stated I am most concerned about Ashford, I did not see his PARADE or STREETCAR but neither made it to NYC, and that says something. I have seen his PROMISES and I think the big problems with that production lay with him.
If luvtheEmcee is blinded by her enthusiasm, then doesn't that make you blinded by your dislike of Rob Ashford and therefore your opinion is just as invalid as you claim hers to be?

Perhaps we could re-start this thread, or perhaps begin a new one that actually focuses on LEAP OF FAITH.
I have not seen the production. I have no opinion.
I do, however, have a ticket, and I look forward to hearing more about the show.

I'm sure someone will start one for the first preview, since I think a handful of people from here will be going.
And for what it's worth, all of you, this thread title DOES say "advance word." Just sayin.' But you can all have your shiny new thread when it starts and I will stay out of it, pesky trouble maker than I am.

Now now, don't make me bring out my M&Ms!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

This recent little video clip has me torn. Esparza, as usual, sounds fantastic! But the song is oh-so-generic. But perhaps that's the point?

That song is from the big tent revival scene. It's definitely not one of the better songs in the score, though my main problem with the video was actually that it looks rather ridiculous and it's shot so strangely. Raul looks like he was superimposed onto the "stage."

Stage? There was no "stage." It was all shot in front of a green screen.

The teasers aren't all that visually effective (understatement) but I like the commercial a lot.
Here's hoping that they replace the choir's lace collars with the more typical choir robe stoles, preferably in gold or silver.
ETA: Now I know what the lace collars remind me of! Ron Weasley's dress robes in Harry Potter.

I like the song. I mean it's supposed to be a gospel type thing so as far as being unoriginal I won't knock it. I get that in the context of the story this is exactly what the song should sound like.
The choir seems a little anemic to me. There is a lack of energy.
Raul is working it, but his jacket steals the scene.
I'm very excited for this show, but I have wondered since I first heard they were writing it why they chose it.
The movie was a flop largely b/c the story and characters didn't connect. It has been noted that it's a mix of several other (better) movies.
I kinda wish they had either come up with an original story using these themes, or tackled something that was good to begin with like Elmer Gantry and reimagined it for a different medium.
(I believe there is an Elmer Gantry musical, btw. Wonder what ever became of that).
Still, I'm psyched to see Raul tear it up and a new Menken score is always cause for celebration, imo.

taz - I never cared for the movie either - but the workshop of LEAP that I saw in 2008 was (I thought) impressive and moving. I love the score and, of course, Esparza.
Most of the marketing materials are on the LEAP Facebook site.

I love Raul. Practically worship the man. But I'm beginning to wonder what he's gotten himself into...
So far, this looks like a bomb. And can you imagine this versus Sister Act in the same season? YIKES.

Raul's been involved in several readings of this show spanning years. If he thought it was going to be a turkey he would have extracted himself a while ago.

I'm well aware, Piragua. The demo tracks are awful, this clip is embarrassing... I do have a fondness for the movie, so I've still got some hope.

I just found out I'll be in LA while this is playing, so I am VERY excited! Two questions though:
Does anyone have a discount code for this yet? And also, since I've never been to L.A, much less this theater, what is the stage dooring situation?
