I feel like "The African Mean Girls Play" just diminishes the whole show.

I also saw it tonight and thought it was great. It's very well cast, and the story was both hilarious and very poignant .

I really, really enjoyed it. It's a short (75 minutes) little gem of a show. Very sweet and funny with a terrific cast. In my book, MCC is 2 for 2 this season.

Loved it. Very well written and acted. Also very funmy. There is a turning point that will bring you close to tears.
The girls were flawless. The writing gives you a
bit of vested interest in each one by the end. I walked out wondering what happened to each of them the year after this takes place.
Judging by some conversation I overheard leaving the theater, some people didn't get the ending. They definetly were not born in the 80's.

Is this play appropriate for a reasonably sophisticated 11 yr. old? (I ask because I'd like to see it but may be able to do so at this point only if I take my son along).

Andy51, I think an 11 year old can handle it. There is at one point a mildly disturbing image but it's brief and more psychological

Anyone try rushing this? Do they sell tickets to the mezzanine if the orchestra is full?

I saw a reading of the play last year (or early this year?) at MCC. Is there much change that warrants a revisit?

saw this tonight, man this was good and I would love to see maybe Second Stage pick this up and bring it back next season to the Hayes. Only drawback, the family in the back with 3 VERY young VERY loud kids, who eventually all ended up sitting ontop of that back wall behind the back row of the orchestra, the worst.

There are a lot of mature 11 year olds out there but I would go for 13 and up with this one. Just my opinion.
Also, I heard that the mezz is closed for this. I sat in the rear orchestra house left. Last seat by the wall next to last row. A bit of an umcomfortable seat but a great view (even with the tall guy in front of me. Would have been perfect had he not been in front of me. But he was cute so it was ok!!
we also had a noisy family in the last row center. They decided to start commenting for the last half of the show. An usher spoke to them 3 times and they were oblivious. They were obviously not theatergoers who thought they were in their living room watching tv. It was both annoying and embarrasing.

i never understand why MCC doesnt sell the mezz for most of their shows, like even if they were sold as partial view, the whole runs sold out at this point why not open up the mezz and get some more folks in

I tried rushing tonight. They had to turn away a handful of us plus more that were inquiring about standby/rush when the list was already too long. Really disappointed that they wouldn't have the mezz open knowing the demand. They just recently had it open for The End of Longing.
They also pulled the 30 under 30 code in the last 2 weeks and they were selling the majority of the theater at premium for like $149.
Oh well, I tried and don't care that I'm missing it now.
