How 'bout trump? He's already a joke so he might as well make legitimate money at it, especially where the audience can throw cabbages, tomatoes, and other garden items like they did in the old days.

She also doesn’t do much in the way of performing any more, but you’ve basically described my dream.
Little as I like the idea, Springsteen's Broadway success may inspire other pop acts to take their chance on solo concert runs on Broadway.
This really isn't something new. Concerts by rock/pop artists and solo biographical performances have been playing on Broadway forever. Springsteen was going to be a runaway hit no matter what he did on stage.
I think Patti Smith has the artistic and literary sensibility to pull something like this off. She doesn't have quite the level of superstar clout that Bruce has, but I bet her show would be captivating.

Great suggestion. She has all the bona fides including "Just Kids" being a terrific memoir. Perfect voice for a show such as this. She would be captivating.

Put nearly anyone else in a show like that, and it’s just a small concert venue: it’s Springsteen’s already well-known singing/storytelling hybrid, expanded into a full one-man show, that makes Springsteen on Broadway work. The only other people I could see pulling it off are Pete Townshend, who is a legend but not at the solo prestige level of Springsteen, Tom Waits, who is too niche to sell, and Sir Paul McCartney, who just simply wouldn’t do it."
Beautifully said and worth repeating. Leonard Cohen could pull off such an evening, but I have no idea if he would want to try. Otherwise, Don Henley is the only other male singer whose body of work can be compared in terms of quality or quantity with those of Springsteen and Cohen.
Another reality check. I love Patti Smith. She is doing a show at the Minetta. She cannot sell out a Broadway theatre for months. Neither could Leonard Cohen who inconveniently died 2 years ago but who would have been 84 otherwise.

Oh, God! I've been on the road for so long!
Thanks for the correction, Hogan.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?! Bless you.
Though... I just checked and it's sold out. Dammit. I'll see if I can snag a ticket elsewhere. [Edit: I realized I have an unmovable conflict on all three dates, so clearly it's not meant to be. Hopefully she'll reprise it sometime.]
And I agree that she wouldn't be able to sell enough tickets to maintain a Broadway run, but for a hypothetical conversation about this kind of singer-songwriter storytelling show, she'd be amazing.
I hope she does do it again, and elsewhere, because as glad as I am that Audible is using the Minetta Lane, I don't think it will serve her well.

I’d love to see Bette, Cher, Dolly, Babs possibly even Tina. I think they all have fascinating stories and would work well. Or Gaga is like a jazz piano styled show
