BEYONCE'S DÉJÀ VU... Deborah Cox replaced Toni Braxton when she took to the Broadway stage in the starring role of AIDA -- a role Heather Headley originated. But none of them are apparently big enough to carry Disney's planned movie musical, due in 2010. Instead, Beyonce is in talks to star as Aida, and Christina Aguilera in the supporting role of Amneris. Just ask any of her former colleagues in Destiny's Child: You just can't get away from Beyonce these days. To think the 27-year-old is only beginning to truly conquer film. Soon enough, we'll see the Dreamgirls' star turn as blues singer Etta James in Cadillac Records.
But Beyonce has pretty much stayed in the recorded-music limelight ever since she released her last album two years ago. B-Day spawned no fewer than six hits. Now, she's ready with her third solo set, which will drop one week after Cox's The Promise. Timbaland is purportedly the lead producer on the as-yet-untitled album, which will also feature Justin Timberlake, although Billboard reports it's unclear in what capacity, and the magazine offered few other details other than that we'll hear two singles from the set in less than two weeks: 'If I Were A Boy' and 'Single Ladies.' In case you didn't know, the now-Mrs. Jay-Z is neither....

I think this could really work as a movie.

YES to the idea of the movie, actually
Freaking NOOOO to Beyonce as Aida. And.. as much as I'll be the first to admit Christina Aguilera has an amazing voice and could pull OFF Amneris vocally, she also bothers me a bit. I want them to get unknowns for the movie.
OR cast people who were in the show before, but the OBC and such might be a bit too old. (Not that there's really a DISTINCT age clarification in the show, but still we can assume the characters are probablymeant to be no more than early to mid 20s if even that, so pushing 40s would be difficult on screen)
But yeah, I DO think this is one show that could work well as a movie, if done well :) But Beyonce and Christina would NOT be.. it done well. haha
For some reason I really like the idea of Christina as Amneris. I'm not sure, but I feel like she could pull off the character well.
I could do without Beyonce. I feel like they could find someone else.
Who will be Radames? Suggestions? Timberlake seems to fit that triangle well...
I could see Christina playing the role like an ice princess... who knows, it could be interesting. But how reliable is this? Probably not at all. I think it could make an interesting movie though.

I think Aida will be a terrible movie. It has one of the most sucktacular books and inconsistent scores I've ever witnessed.
However, Beyonce is the right choice (espcially business-wise). I don't really enjoy Christina Aguilera's singing, but she was really funny on Saturday Night Live, so I'm cool with her as Amneris.
But Cox did not replace Braxton, she replaced the other Destiny's Child chick.
I won't believe this movie will ever happen until I am in a seat in a movie theatre and the lights go down.
Nor do I/will I believe any casting "rumors" until I am in a seat in a movie theatre and the lights go down and I see the people in the roles.
This is one of favorites of all time and Amneris... well... yeah So this means a lot to me.
I just want it done and I want it done well.
Everyone is "in talks" about everything. Hopefully, they won't star a single actor in the film. That would be the best movie ever!
Agreed Mister Matt. Let's not have another Hairspray happen where they insist on casting a million huge stars when it would have been better without some of them. (Amanda Bynes....)
Beyonce and Christina have been in talks for over a year now. It will happen.
Nick Lachey and Justin Timberlake are speculated possiblities for Radames.

I stil want the OBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wont be as excited to see it if the ruin it like Mamma Mia with actors that cant sing just cuz they are big name!!!
OBC would be amazing, but it'll never happen
I guess getting actors who can at least somewhat pass as "Egyptian" is out of the question?
hahaha jpbran soo true
How young are they going to make this cast... before you know it the cast will be Zac Efron and MIley Cyrus....
I mean I understand they need to be in their mid twenties/early thirties... right?
Why not get someone like Ewan McGregor to play Ramades (we know he can sing)
or is he just too old?
I guess Beyonce could be okay. But why not at least give that part to Heather Headley and then upcast the others.....
even Lindsay Lohan would be good for Amneris.
Hey, I LIKED Amanda Bynes in Hairspray!
I liked her in Hairspray too but I don't think vocally she is up for Amneris.
Weren't defenseless moviegoers tortured enough with PHANTOM and RENT?
Let's just pray they can get Rod Stewart as Zoser and Kanye West as Mereb.
blondebaby - The biggest problem with Hairspray was not that they used stars, but that they used actors. If it wasn't for Queen Latifah, nobody would have seen it.
I mean I understand they need to be in their mid twenties/early thirties... right?
If we were talking historical accuracy, wouldn't they be more like teenagers?
I'm not sure if it will happen - I do know it shouldn't happen.
Bad book, ugly score. I wouldn't watch it for free on TV.
And didn't Dreamgirls prove that Bouncy can't act?
Color me brilliant...
Radames = Barry Manilow
If anyone responds to this, then it is offically "in talks". Let's make it happen, people.
agreed Mister Matt. my mistake.
