Moulin Rouge!is up in the air. It's a very expensive show to run."
Funny to see how long the Hadestown death watch has been going.
It is quite amazing to see how some of the recent musicals are already near the top of the list. God time is flying. Equally near the bottom of the list too a couple of the more niche artistic ones too.
I really don't want to see Passion stay at the bottom of the list forever, but I also can't bring myself to root for a show worthy of the big award to flop hard. I guess I'll have to wait until the Tony nominators and voters do something ridiculous, along the lines of awarding the Tony to Queen of Versailles.

Phantom really is amazing. To think that Lion King opened in Nov of 1997 and still has a couple more years to go to beat out Phantom. That's crazy.

It will be more like six and a half years before Lion King beats Phantom in performance count.

Ex: Cats - 7,485 (1:593)"
This thread is fascinating. I was also interested to see how everything landed with revivals. I added up performances from all revivals, equalled a total, and indicated what place they would fall if revivals were included.

From a spot perspective, Sweeney Todd gained the most, moving up 32 spots. That is also without counting the Off Broadway Pie Shop revival, runs with NYCO, and NYPhil concerts. It's had double the life in revivals than it had in its original run.
I was surprised to see Dolly actually lost ground. It's had a number of revivals, they just don't seem to run all that long. I am also surprised with how low Bye Bye Birdie remains. It has the reputation for being such a classic, but the original did not run terribly long, and the only revival has been a limited Roundabout run.
This is such cool work, thank you for sharing.
