Now that it's released, what's your opinion? Are the songs really as bad as some critics describe it?

Critics are disliking the cast recording?!
If you mean people who didn't like the show in general, one imagines the people who liked the show will like the OBCR, and the people who didn't like the show will not like/not buy the OBCR, no?

So sorry for the fuzzy wording. I mean the songs. Some critics do mention that one of the main weaknesses of Allegiance is its songs, specifically generic melodies and poor lyrics. What's your take on this?

Is it weird that I like the show, and I like the music, but I don't like them together? When I listen to the OBC for what it is and put the show out of my mind, I enjoy them, but when I sit down to watch the show, I cringe when "What Makes A Man", "Get In The Game", "Should I?", and "Paradise" are performed. It just feels like a mismatch.

I really like it. I find the majority of the music beautiful and I think the story and the message outweigh a few clunky lyrics.

An amateur pageant with embarrassing priorities and pitiful craft. The cast album could be for anything, it's so generic.
I love George Takei and admire his passion for getting an internment story onstage. I just wish he hadn't been hoodwinked by people who are so unworthy of the task.

These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Love the show (finally saw it last week), love the cast recording! Not a surprise I love even the mini cast album (with 5 songs, some of which did not make the cut in NYC) from San Diego.

This seems to be a show that was better pre-Broadway. I could listen to a recording of the San Diego version (which I had since lost in an iPhone upgrade) over and over. The Broadway version is just ok.

Do you mean the mini cast recording? If so, you can find it on iTunes store. I honestly love both the mini CR and BW CR, but I do see where you are coming from. The lyrics of Higher, Gaman, and With You are more specific in the BW CR, though they sound a little deliberate and forced at the same time.
