any idea which theater this will play in?? Does anyone care??
Crystal Bowersox and Annette O'Toole Will Star in Broadway's Always… Patsy Cline
Recently saw a production in Houston. I think it'd be better Off-Broadway...
Rodgers?
Circle In The Square?
Belasco?
Brooks(In the event Hardbody exits)?
St.James...seems quite a large theatre to fill
-Anything booked after limited runs at the
Booth?
Cort?
Broadhurst?
Schoenfeld?
I see this going the way of Pump Boys...
Canceled before we could even remember it was happening.
No, I don't care. They should have just moved it into New World after FOREVER DUSTY closes.
My god, this thing is still around? I designed this maybe a decade ago for a little dinner theatre in upstate Michigan. Wasnt good then. Cant imagine it any better now.
When this was off Broadway it was one of the most boring things I have ever seen. Who is going to go see this for $150.00?
SeanMartin, the show just turned 25 this month.
Matt Rogers, I wouldn't call it boring. But then Im from Houston, so I get the topical humor in the book. And there's a lot of TOPICAL humor that will not land if you're not from Huston. So, I can definitely understand why you might find it boring or anyone else that isn't from Houston.
And actually, let me rephrase that. Anyone who doesn't remember Houston pre-2000. If you got here after 2000, a lot of the topical humor won't be relevant to you either.
I'm sorry. I wish them well. But the structure of this thing is absurd. No drama whatsoever. Unless it has been radically reworked, it is a housewife sitting in her kitchen talking about how much she loves Patsy Cline and then an actress playing Patsy Cline sings the famous hits catalogue between her monologues, and then I think they have a fantasy meeting, or something. I was probably asleep by that point. This is a truly terrible show and I would love to know who invested in it, and why.
Nope... not reworked. You kind of got the plot wrong, but that's ok.
It's about a woman living in Houston who first hears Patsy CLine sing on TV. She becomes a fan instantly. She starts hearing her on the radio, so she calls her favorite DJ at a radio station daily (mutliple times daily) to play Patsy Cline music. He tells her that she'll be playing a concenrt in Houston, so she decides to go. She gets there early to get the best seats, and winds up getting there before Patsy Cline. When Patsy Cline walks in, looking lost, she appraoches her. The two hit it off and become friends. They end up communicating through letters for about three years. Then Patsy Cline dies in the plane crash.
This plot is almost entirely related to the audience through monolouges, as the actress who plays Patsy Cline has very few lines. However, the story really did happen. The woman's name was Louise Seger and her stories and the letters she and Patsy CLine sent to each other were the basis for a section of the Patsy Cline biogrpahy called Honky Tonk Angel.
As I said before, and this is a fault of the show, I think it plays best to Houston audiences because of the Houston specific jokes. I also think it helps to actually know a person that is like the character of Louise Seger.
I don't see this working at all. It's a show that's been on the dinner theater circuit for YEARS. Why would you come to NYC and see some little, small musical you've already seen? You're gonna spend your tourist dollars on something else. Might work if you had someone in the role of Patsy that was interesting, but no one knows who that Crystal girl is. Hopefully they're smart and wait and grab the Booth when it's available.
