Was there a whiff of this before? Seems a surprise to me personally.

IIRC he got some heat for the amount of injuries sustained by the cast of his West Side Story revival due to his insistence on live rain effects & such (and that's not even factoring in performing during the early days of COVID).

What does "performing during the early days of COVID" have to do with anything? Every single Broadway show performed during the early days of COVID. No director had any say over whether they did or didn't. That isn't the director's job.

I only thought of that because the "review" of the production from Vox was at least 85% commentary about the ethics of live theatre during a pandemic and barely mentioned the show itself at all. Badly written criticism tends to stick with me.
