There is no play on Broadway lauding and lionizing Scott Rudin or William Ivey Long as PEOPLE. Its truly astounding (and i say this as someone who recognizes MJ's musical genius)"I know we discussed this years ago but MJ literally broke its own supposed logic for not including the allegations by setting it in 1993 before th...

Rumor: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to close in August?

Broadway is dead."if Ragtime was profitable, it would not be closing. LCT needs that money and would not be closing a hit.

Let's say you're right that costs have increased by 100% over last ten years. ~38% of that is just inflation. To get the rest, you only need an additional 3.7% cost increases per year over ...

Rumor: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to close in August?

Of course not all things need to come to Broadway but I think the point ALW and many others are saying is getting missed by some here quibbling over particulars. It is unusual that show after show can get raves, and not be able to run. It isn't just CATS. It's now the norm. Hell, EVITA almost didn't come over after SUNSET won raves and Tonys and closed at a loss. MAYBE HAPPY ENDING is dangerously close and it was beloved and won Best Musical. Of course LOST BOYS isnt making 30+ million back - ...

Yes, he's been let back in.And if folks don't agree, they dont' have to buy a ticket. But can every thread not devolve into shock that not everyone agrees. I mean, MJ is sitting right there...

James Lapine follow up to Putting it together?

Jul 12, 2026 — 12:37:05 PM

I know around the time of the book, he was working on a screenplay again (anyone else remembering Jake Gyllenhaal wanting to make it?). Shame that died. Probably because streamers turned against making musical adaptations.

Broadway Revivals That Deserve The Jellicle Ball Treatment

Kad said: "And this is the approach that has long been embraced in staging classic plays. It’s extremely rare to see Shakespeare or Sophocles staged in their literal settings, even as their texts frequently refer to them."This is exactly what I said after I saw it at PAC. It plays like a Shakespeare production, where aspects make more emotional than logical sense. (The moon part, in particular.)And not to take anything from Levingston, but it would make sense given Rausch's history at OSF.

Zero question that white men (and women, though that gets more complicated) have routinely made employees cry and not been called out for it.That said, that doesn't mean it's ok. imho

In addition to Josh O’Connor, there’s Cate Blanchett, Kristin Scott Thomas, Chris Pine, Mary Louise Parker, Gillian Anderson, Billy Crudup, Christine Baranksi, Richard E Grant. Keira Knightly…and that’s just off the top of my head as a casual New York observer. Has New York theater lost its luster?"Yes. Shows can't make their money back.

I almost wish there was BTS reporting on this to provide a little clarity cuz all the side talk and chatter and think pieces are getting a little annoying.Of course, it's none of our business, and jobs going south often have a lot of different sides and nuance. But this speculative period right now is annoying.Exhibit A (or maybe we're on to Z already):Fxck you White American Theatre by Nataki Garrett Myers

Saw it Thurs night, so missed Sherie sadly, but concur on Larkin. Great presence. I found her to be more than solid as an understudy but quite wonderful.

We get that they don’t have to tell us nor issue refunds, but it’s wildly disingenuous to say that if you buy a ticket for two days from now, you don’t expect to see the same cast that’s announced and played yesterday.Or that you should go back to an announcement from many months ago and memorize what the original closing date was. There’s a reason why it’s not usually done like this.

Yeah this is bizarre. Sure, the initial run was until June 21. But them not publicly saying when a cast change has happened until after the fact seems more like they weren't expecting it. Perhaps negotiations were still ongoing with MJ?Personally I'm finally seeing it Thursday and annoyed I'm missing people I was interested in seeing.
