Jordan Catalano said: "Sally was great and seeing her onstage was a thrill. But, for me, the gimmicky production completely overshadowed her. For old plays like this, I’m all for trying out new stuff. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t."
Amen again. Applaud the attempt to try out new things (and a disabled Laura makes sense to me, and could be great), but this production fell flat and was Trying Way Too Hard. Which is a shame because Field did good work, as did Mantello and blanking-on-his-name but he was also great in Death of a Salesman with PSH.
The site is working now. General onsale is today at 7am EST. Looks like it’s scheduled to run through August.

We had two hours priority booking so we got Row D on the final preview.
So excited I had already planned a trip right when this is running. Kicking off three days of theatre with this, followed by Punchdrunk’s The Burnt City and Jerusalem.

Very interesting. The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum used to do a Tennessee Williams most seasons. They produced a Glass Menagerie with sisters Ellen Geer and Melora Marshall as Amanda and Laura. They had previously played a brilliant Blanche and Stella in Streetcar there but with the 20 years between them they were even better as mother and daughter. They used two Tom's in that production. The Tennessee Williams estate was so outraged that they banned them from doing any more of their plays after that. They pleaded and eventually were able to get the rights again.
I didn't have a problem with old Tom narrating and young Tom interacting with his family but the director had old Tom wandering through scenes with I found very distracting.

can you say a little more about how they used two Toms? Narration and performance? Curious if it served any purpose or just was done to be done.
I’m of very mixed minds about two-Tom’s but as I said before, with older plays like this I’m always willing to give anything a chance and hope it works. I just hope Paul Hilton doesn’t just stand there and do nothing - he’s too good an actor for that.

The older Tom was the narrator. The younger Tom was in the scenes with his mother and sister. That part was ok but didn't really have an impact. Then the director had older Tom in most scenes watching and occasionally just walking around the room in the middle of the action which I found most distracting. Without changing the script there was only so much they can do. I found no real advantage to it. I am assuming that the Tennessee Williams estate is ok with that change now. After that modern day Streetcar with Jillian Anderson I guess they are more willing to experiment. I did not care for that production at all.

I find the idea of two Toms absolutely ridiculous. Messing with a play as beautifully written and structured as Menagerie is nothing but an ego trip for the director. I hope Adams isn't stuck in another dud. The Gillian Streetcar I actually loved. I could even get behind the Sam Gold revival. At least they kept the play intact.
