re: 'An Inspector Calls' upon The Novello

It is the National Theatre production but it hasn't been on the road for some years now.
Watch them do very clever publicity things with this run, the shows 4th West End home, by splattering Stephen Daldry and Billy elliott all over it!
I'ts currently doing sell out business on tour.

The stunning set!

I saw this in the West End and on Broadway and would jump at the chance to see it again. The finest production of any play I've ever seen.

I saw this on a school trip (At the Garrick I believe). I loved it and saw it again on tour a few years later. Must say I think I will have to see it again when I come up to do my Christmas shopping.

I saw this years and years ago when I was studying it at GCSE for school. The tour is in Cardiff until Saturday, very tempted to go. Hmm...

I'd heard this was on the cards. I'm seeing it in Cardiff tomorrow.

"The finest production of any play I've ever seen"- now you've set me thinking: what do I nominate?

I can't believe Weez hasn't seen this either - you are in for a treat Poppet. I saw the original national theatre cast and, yes, it was one of the best nights in a theatre I've ever had. I've seen a couple of the tours and they couldn't help but be lesser in their impact, but were still very worthwhile. I still hope to catch this tour before it moves into London.

I just got tickets to see this production this afternoon in Cardiff (:
Also, very reasonably priced. I've been studying it in English and throughly enjoying it. I'm very excited, the production looks brilliant!

I think you mean Osage.

And a large part of the appeal in selling it here was having the original US cast come over to do it. I shudder to think of that play performed with a local cast doing what passes for American accents these days.

re: 'An Inspector Calls' upon The Novello

C'mon, I only started going to the theatre regularly in 2006, and it took me a few months to break away as completely as I did from musicals. :P Plus I went to the other school in this area, so studied Pygmalion at GCSE instead and only actually read An Inspector Calls for the first time a couple of months ago... *ahem*

But I don't mind; almost everything is a new and exciting experience to me and I don't have childhood memories setting standards and whatnot. S'all good. :)

Weez - I hope you love it. I only wish the show had toured in the US. After the Broadway run, it was never heard from again over here.

Is that set photo of a model? I really hope so, because the original cyclorama in the back appeared seamless and utterly realistic. Not that it really matters, because it is the least relevant part of the production. I've just never seen it displayed that way.

When 'August' was due to move directly to London, before the NT took it on, its star was to be Brenda Blethyn. She fought long and hard to play the lead in a West End production.

I saw AIC on tour today. I remember well the first run at the National- a truly epic production. This current tour looks as though it has been directed via Chinese whispers: a lot of the original intentions have mutated slightly, the result being the same physical production but some truly bizarre line readings and wildly veering tone- not to mention pace which seems determined to get the action through as quickly as possible so they can knock the house down.
It needs work before London!

I saw this production at the Garrick Theatre and thought it was very dull and ordinary; I even twisted my ankle looking for the orchestra!

I love, love, love this play.

I saw it about three times in the space of 12 months because every time I had a visitor that expressed a vague interest in going to see a play I made them see this!

It was fabulous every time and I'd love to see it again.
