He's a true bass, so his voice is really deep and rumbly. In the early 'N Sync days, they would give him all the cheesy "Girl, you know I love you" speaking parts during the interludes, ala Boyz II Men.

Hm this will be very interesting. I guess we can't really say much until we see him for ourselves. I hope he is better then Joey though.

i disagree.
i consider stunt casting to be anytime a star is brought in after a production has opened, solely to bump ticket sales. sure it has a negative connotation, but it is a easy way to increase profits.
examples: fantasia, lance bass.
star casting is when a celeb is casted to originate a role.
examples: david hyde pierce, megan mulally.
im not sure talent should be the defining factor between these two terms.

It's stunt casting. The only way it would be star casting is to admit that Mr. Bass actually has talent and clearly Craig and I differ on our definitions of talent. Additionally I would like to add that while I did mention Lance's sexual preference in my deleted post I was not bashing him. I'm gay too. That would be dumb. I was merely commenting on the fact that it is rare to see his name in print these days without the forward, power gay. That is not a bash.

I like Hairspray.. I've seen it a few times... I didn't want to see it with the "Stunt" "Star" "Whatever" casting.. of Alexa, Ashley, Jerry...but I did. They were okay. They did there best I'm sure. It just bothers me to know that if these same people if they weren't under the "Stunt" "Star" and "Whatver" casting banner.. that if they just walked in off the street and auditionied for these roles like everyone else.. I dont' think they would get a second look. That being said.. I might be the only one.. but I really dislike the "Stunt" "Star" "Whatever" casting in any show... Cast people on their talent...if you cast them, people will come. Well I will.

Thank you Craig. The first post was disgusting. I really don't know why Gays think it's OK to bash other gays for fun. It's extremely offensive to me.
And stunt casting is putting the Kentucky Derby winner on stage. Stunt Casting is Evelyn Norbit-- putting a non-performer on stage in a role to cash in her notariety. Casting a well-know performer is just flat out good business. When Chita Rivera can't go on, you get Liza Minnelli and make Chicago a sell-out.
Lance Bass is a professional singer and actor. Why the hell shouldn't he play Broadway?

What the hell does that mean? He's sold millions of records, he's starred in films....you can say you don't like him or whatever but he's paid his dues, he's got fans? I don't understand why people have to be such bitches.

"'Many of the people (celebs) who are cast in shows are not STUNT casting. They HAVE the acting/singing chops. They are being cast as "stars" very different.'
What happened with Alexa Vega, then?
I kid, I kid."
Don't kid...she's awful. She's only improved slightly, though she's Ethel Merman compared to the disaster that is Jerry Mathers...talk abour awful. Ashley Angel Parker sounds like he inhaled helium before the show...he speaks too high and sings too low. Lance Bass will be far superior.
As for stunt casting, whether or not they have the talent necessary for the part, they are generally approached because of their name value only. Reba Macintyre was phenomenal in Annie Get Your Gun, but it doesn't change the fact that she was stunt cast. Diana DeGarmo is easily the 2nd-best Penny in Hairspray, but it doesn't change the fact that she was stunt-cast.

I wonder how many people actually know who Sephiroth is on this board

I have to admit that I wasn't very happy with this news at all.
I don't object to celebrities coming into shows as long as they fit their parts.
Lance is a bass and I hope that they don't have to lower certain notes for him ("It's Hairspray" calls for a high belt "the only thing better than hairSPRAY, that's me"
and he looks very young, everyone is like 'they can make him look older" how? corny doesn't have defined wrinkles or a beard, or anything that would clearly show him as older. he is just an older role and casted that way since the beginning
it makes you care more when he tries to get his ideas about the show heard, because he's been with it for so long and it's his baby.
and I pray to god that lance doesn't look younger than ashley parker angel onstage

I am so upset. He starts the day before I see it. Ugh, this is so terrible.

For the person who asked about Lance singing a solo on his own, search NSync and Tim McGraw on The Site. He sings the opening of Lean On Me quite nicely - though he seemed nervous.

'Oh no they didnt' just posted this from Lance's Myspace Blog:
Well, now that it's official and I can legally talk about it....YES, I am doing Hairspray on Broadway! YEAAAAAA!!!!
I will be playing Corny Collins (the role James Mardsen is playing in the upcoming film version...which is incredible btw!) from August 14th til January 6th 2008 (168 shows....YIKES!). I cannot tell you how excited I am to be back on a stage performing for you all! I hope to see each and everyone of you at some point during the run!
I am also very excited to be making the move to NYC! I love it there and have always wanted to try it on for size.
In the future I will be posting all the details on how to go about getting tickets and the exact dates and times I will be performing.
Thank you for the overwhelming support in my doing the show! See you all very soon!!!!
Thats a pretty long engagement.

Oh, Lance DEFINITELY looks younger than Ashley. I mean, they're just about the same age, and Ashley looks older, so...
This is why it's going to be so weird to see him as Corny. All of the kids are going to look older than him!
