I have to admit, I am rather surprised that no one has predicted Priscilla for Best Musical. When I herd it was coming to New York I was adamant it would defiantly scoop the Tony's and defiantly Best musical.
I believe Tony Sheldon will receive best actor, and if not then I feel the Tony’s will need to make new alterations for next year.
And what happened to The Addams family, I predicated it would do marvellously as far as awards go. Obviously not.
It seems to me that the book of Mormon will do rather well, and I have high hopes for Sister Act s Patina Miller captures a true effortless performance as well as Sheldon.
Do you agree?
(Also does anyone know if it we can view it here in the UK?)

Have you seen the Mormon reviews, ticket sales, buzz vs Priscilla? I'd be more surprised if anyone would predict Priscilla to win best musical with the state of Mormon. Maybe Priscilla could even be snubbed for a nomination:
(Mormon, Scottsboro, Catch Me, Sister Act).
But perhaps that's a pipe dream.

Posted: 3/30/11 at 7:31amI haven't seen anything but Priscilla to comment on it getting nominated for Best Musical. But, I would hope for it to get nominated for some of the tech awards. Particularly Best Costume Design, or whatever they call it. I can't think of any other shows with such over the top costumes, except for maybe Spider-man, but that won't be eligible to get nominated.

Posted: 4/3/11 at 11:56amI enjoyed Priscilla but was disappointed with Adam's Family and Catch Me If You Can. Book of Mormon all the way for the Tony's! It was genius!!

While I am seeing H2SB, Priscilla, and Catch Me If You Can all in two weeks... I truly hope Aaron wins the TONY, I'll judge for myself soon, but from what I've heard, he's giving a stellar (breakout star) performance... and he was robbed of even a nomination in 2009.
Yes, I'm biased... might have a slight "bro" crush on Aaron.
Also, Priscilla did not get the best reviews... wouldn't be surprised if it isn't even nominated for Best Musical, as qolbinau mentioned.
But depending on the reviews Wonderland receives, it could come down to: Mormon, Wonderland, Catch Me, Sister Act.
There have been many shows that were not liked on this board, or by many, but got decent reviews (a la Memphis) and went onto be nominated (and win)... not saying Wonderland will win, just saying people are turning a blind eye to it.

#7And the Tony award goes to....
Posted: 4/3/11 at 12:51pmI highly doubt wonderland will be in the mix... just my unsolicited(sp?) Two cents. Im afraid Scottsborro could be forgotten to which makes me sad. I mean come on its the last kander and ebb show we're going to get!

Posted: 4/3/11 at 12:51pmNo one's predicting it to win Best Musical because it's not the best musical of the season. Done.
#9And the Tony award goes to....
Posted: 4/3/11 at 1:02pmI haven't seen Wonderland, so I can't judge; but with it being one of the larger shows of the season, I don't think it can be overlooked just yet.

I'm a Wildhorn fan (I know, I'm a broken record) and even *I* know that Wonderland ain't gettin' nominated.
If Patina doesn't get nominated, let alone win, I'll be pissed.

Posted: 4/3/11 at 1:31pmAt this point, Priscilla would be lucky to get a nomination. I liked it and I think it does deserve to be nominated, but it's no Book of Mormon. And if Wonderland gets nominated for Best Musical amidst these other shows, I will seriously doubt the judgment skills of the nominating committee.

What about The People in the Picture...
I know a lot of people on the boards arent loving it.. but any chance?

Posted: 4/3/11 at 2:09pmI'm hoping for People In The Picture to make a dramatic change for the better, like Passion.

Posted: 4/3/11 at 2:25pmPASSION had Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. PICTURE has pop songwriters and a novelist. It's highly unlikely they'll make a PASSION out of it. Updated On: 4/3/11 at 02:25 PM

I'd toss in that while the voters vote with their wallets, the nominators tend to nominate with the work more in mind. Some big musicals like Addams Family, Come Fly Away, 9 to 5 etc., were left out of recent Best Musical races when nominations tended to favor better reviewed shows.
If any of the new musicals still to open like Catch Me, Sister Act, Wonderland, Baby It's You and People in the Picture don't fare well critically (and word around town is quite mixed on the lot of them), I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of the fall's more well received musicals, Scottsboro Boys and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson get remembered for a Best Musical slot.

This is true, Smaxie, but there are also instances where better shows have been snubbed because they are long-closed. [title of show] comes to mind here.
And was Passion bad at the start of previews or something? I'm curious to know that story...

scottsboro boys SHOULD win. book of mormon WILL win.
sherie rene scott SHOULDN'T get nominated for phoning it in at the performance i saw, but WILL because of her status.
laura benanti will get nominated because she had the only well written role in WOTV
patina miller will get nominated but won't win because there's not enough depth in that role.
sutton foster is so overrrated, but will get nominated because of her status.
hopefully there'll be some pleasant surprises with new unknowns getting nominated so it's not the same ole boring flair of theater vets & celebs.

Posted: 4/3/11 at 3:36pmPriscilla WILL get a Best Musical nomination. Priscilla and Mormon seem to be the best shows of the season.
#22And the Tony award goes to....
Posted: 4/3/11 at 9:32pmI'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts for Best Revival. When I was in the city I heard lots of people buzzing positivly for both How to Succeed and Anything Goes. But I'm thinking that Tony will be going to Anything Goes.

Posted: 4/3/11 at 11:08pmI really can't see Priscilla getting anywhere close to winning - honestly, I'm on the fence regarding a nomination.
