Okay...is anyone else obsessed with his performance on the Tonys? I watch it way too much....Now, I saw the show in previews, own the CD...liked him very much, but not to any abnormal degree. Nothing to indicate it would turn me into a Youtube stalker. But the Tonys!! His innocent/sexy/righteous swagger has me mesmerized. Every time he turns his head to the side and delivers the line "what's so scary about that?" I fall a little more in love with him....help....

I think he is quite cute but I am not obsessed. I also think they ought to alert security at the Eugene O'Neill!! (jk!)

Andrew Rannels is the latest big Broadway name to hit big after getting his career started in the infamous Pokemon musical. He was James from Team Rocket.

I'm kind of obsessed with "I Believe" and his voice is incredible, but I'm distracted by the fact that he looks like he's molded out of plastic.

I've been a fan of his ever since I saw him as Bob Gaudio 4 years ago. Love him.

He reminds me of Jim Carey.

All that lip-licking, too.

That's the whole point. I give kudos to the creative team for casting these 'plastic' looking, wholesome, 'Up with People'-type actors to play the Elders. Having Josh Gad not fit that mold adds so much to the visual of the group all together.

Been in love with this boy since his understudying days in Hairspray before taking over for Link. Still my favorite Link. Incredibly happy for all the success he's getting now!

Curious about that lip-licking thing. Is that just a nervous habit? Did he do it in Hairspray, too? Or is that a character "tick" for this show only?

The first time I saw him on the Tonys, I thought he (and the song) were great. Now I can't get past all the lip-licking on subsequent viewings.

I feel like sending him a case of Chapstick.

It must have been his nerves or a case of dry lips at the Tony Awards as its definitely not a character thing in THE BOOK OF MORMON.

I was 6th row Orchestra Center when I saw the show and he did not do that lip-licking bit that I can remember. Again... it isn't a character thing.

Best12bars, the lip-licking thing is a habit that maaaaany singers get into. It's not necessarily a bad thing, though it can be distracting. I guess the best way to explain it is that it's a (mostly) unconscious, knee-jerk reaction to make sure your mouth/lips aren't dry while you're singing.

Edit: In conjunction with Brody's post, whenever you become super nervous, your mouth suddenly becomes extremely dry partially due to the extra breathing you're doing. That might explain the constant lip-licking as opposed to it happening once or twice.

Well, I can totally understand "drying up" at the Tonys and nerves taking over. His performance was great, regardless.

But I'm glad he's not doing that all the time. It could get hugely distracting.

Yeah, I can attest that it's not something he made a habit of either in Jersey Boys or Book of Mormon. I felt bad for him during the Tonys!

This has been my desktop for months now. I can't stop looking at his hair. I seriously need to go to whatever treatment center Anthony Wiener was pretending to go to!

Totally agree. He is absolutely adorable and has a beautiful voice. You can't help but want to root for him. I know he played 'Link' for a while in HAIRSPRAY. Was he Matthew Morrison's understudy? Didn't Richard Blake briefly take over the role after Morrison left? And was the hottie he was sitting next to at the Tony's his date?

Richard Blake played Link for almost two years. Rannells was his understudy, before taking over in November 2005.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one obsessed. Actually he reminded me a little of the guy who introduced him, Stephen Colbert.

Also saw him in "Jersey Boys" and was amased at his talent. He was my pick to win the Tony over Josh Gad.
