Andrew Rannells Joining Hamilton

I guess I can be convinced to lotto again.

Not who my pick would have been, but I bet he'll be good. It seems like they tried to cast it within Jonathan Groff's type. Not that Groff and Rannells are interchangeable in any way, but I mean as opposed to someone like Brian d'Arcy James.

I guess they really are going to resolve all the... whatever in a Looking movie.

Super excited for him, but also...is this not why we hire an understudy? I get it, they need someone who's relatively known usually, but it's not going to close if an understudy is on while Jon is out. Nevertheless, I'm actually super pumped to hear his take on it.

Isn't there technically an understudy for King George, but he's not listed?

I seem to remember that Javi Muños was the King George understudy at the Public, wasn't he?

If Groff is sick or something, sure, but there is never an expectation or guarantee that if the main person leaves the show or has a scheduled extended absence, they would get to fill in the whole time. If/Then did let Anthony's understudy perform the role for multiple weeks, while he had knee surgery, but up to the show, really.

I wonder if Russell Tovey will also be out of A View From The Bridge - although it seems unlikely that he could be out for a month that includes previews and opening. Perhaps his part in Looking will not be so big.

I like that they're committed to the snippy queen aspect.

I'm going to snicker to myself for days over "The Rannells pamphlet."

Thayne Jasperson is the only listed understudy. It is up to the show. Its a month, so they probably had to replace either Jonathan or Thayne (to avoid being down a swing) and thought it was easier to replace Groff since the ensemble is utilized so much in this show, and the choreography is not the most simple. In comparison, in If/Then (to go off the example used before) while the ensemble is used quite a bit, the choreography isn't quite as complicated and technical.

Thayne Jasperson is the understudy but if even they wanted to use him for that length of time they couldn't. He announced yesterday on Twitter that he is out of the production for a month because on an injury.

I have tickets to see it a second time on November 5. I was thinking of selling them, but maybe I won't now...

I think he's a great choice for it, at least based on the recording.
And PalJoey, let me know if you do end up wanting to sell those tickets...

Ooofff. I hadn't seen that. I noticed he was out last night from a tweet. Every male swing was on yesterday evening (except for the new vacation swing... are they in yet?).

I imagine this is a very difficult show for the ensemble. They are in almost constant motion for the entire show. I don't know how any human can do that. I hope Jasperson recovers quickly!
I like Rannells for the role. I think his voice suits the part and he will bring a good measure of fun. I had been hoping for Steven Pasquale, but I guess that was a pipe dream.

Rannells seems like a good fit for the role. I wonder if King George will end up being the role where they always look to get a well known actor.

Norbert Leo Butz next, please?

Wishing a speedy recovery to Thayne J....He's a very talented guy.
I think this is brilliant casting. Rannells is really, really good at playing pouty entitlement.
