Leslie Henstock recorded a great "It Would Have Been Wonderful" on her solo CD.

Posted: 2/9/08 at 2:07amI just did this show! Don't know if I LOVE the score... but "It Would Have Been Wonderful" is absolutely georgous. And I love Strouse's style.

"Somebody's gotta do somethin' before it's too late!"
Most of the score is just so fun...

Donna McKechnie kicks "But You Go On" out of the park!
And "Love" is a gorgeous tune as well.

Annie ain't just Annie anymore!
With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

AH. Donna's voice on the cast album!
She really does knock "But You Go On" out of the park.
And the "Above the Law" reprise? Pure gold. The woman is supremely talented. Like we didn't already know.
And I have to say while there are book issues regarding plot and pacing and stuff, the show is FUNNY. Good times.

Aww, c'mon! Those orphans that sound like the chipmunks?
Adorable!

Posted: 2/9/08 at 2:30pmIt has to be said that while ANNIE 2: MISS HANNIGAN'S REVENGE was an all out disaster, ANNIE WARBUCKS is actually quite charming. Dare I say it: I find it more enjoyable than ANNIE. I certainly prefer the sequel's score. I wish it would be given a second chance in NY. It's one of the few musical sequels that I think works. Sure, it has some minor book issues, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with some tweaks.

I saw the show once, albeit in a god-awful amateur production, and I thought that the book was, if not actually horrendous, certainly pointless.
I sat there thinking, "They went through ninety different Hells creating this show and THIS is the bestt book that they could come up with?!?!?"
Score-wise, I think that the best song in the show is "Arms of a Younger Man". If Tony Bennett was still recording show tunes, he should have recorded it.

Posted: 2/10/08 at 1:51amThe Other Woman is one of the most disturbing songs I've ever seen performed on stage. All those little girls bumping and grinding and telling Annie that she has to compete with a sexual vamp if she want to "keep her man." Creepy.

It's a treasured cast recording of mine
Come on, producers, record more of the unrecorded Charles Strouse scores!
