Another "Caroline, or Change" question

I haven't seen the show but I have the album and I'm not exactly clear on the whole thing with the statue. Can someone explain it to me?

in the simplist matter -- it's a metaphor/symbol for one of the many things changing and at the end you learn it is EMmie who was involved in taking it down

I also get the feeling that since this show is semi-autobiographical. The statue really existed. But I could be wrong.

I would bet my last dollar that things like this happened in the South in 63 --

NEW QUESTION--

Why does everyone call her "Caroline" except for Rose, who calls her "Carolyn"? And then there's the one time when Noah calls her "Carolyn" as well...

Any suggestions??

the way I see it, the confederate statue represented slavery and oppression, and by tearing it down, its a step forward.

I've wondered that too -- I think it is to help separate her from the family and Caroline...it makes the coming together with Noah ore dramatic....

re: Another 'Caroline, or Change' question

I think it has to do with the fact that is Rose is more "refined" than the others and "Carolynn" sounds more sophisticated. Also, I believe MargoChanning touched on this subject, it represents the gap in Rose's and Caroline's relationship. Rose says "Carolynn" because she doesn't care enough to say it correctly and Caroline doesn't like Rose enough to correct her.

Wow, i never relized how many layers C,OC has. I just thought Rose said "carolyn" because it was another way to pronounce caroline. This makes me wish i could see the show live or taped for dvd.

I'm rushing this show tomorrow and I'm really excited about it now that I know there are layers.
