I am visiting NYC in April (7-13) and so far I have tickets to West Side Story, 9 to 5 and Billy Elliot. Likely to be purchased are Hair, Guys and Dolls and maybe South Pacific (again) and In the Heights (again). Not sure about Shrek.

I read the Sunday New York times and can't help but notice ads for several productions: Blithe Spirit, Waiting for Godot, Exit the King, Impressionism, etc.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

STORY OF MY LIFE will be open by then, and if it gets good reviews, you may want to consider adding that to your list.

Cynthia Nixon is starring in a new play called DISTRACTED at Roundabout. I don't know too much about the show, but Ms. Nixon is an incredible stage actress. I wouldn't pass up a chance to see her live.

There's also the new play 33 VARIATIONS with Jane Fonda, and GOD OF CARNAGE with Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden, which received positive notices in London.

There's the new musical HAPPINESS at Lincoln Center Theater with music by the guys who wrote GREY GARDENS, directed by Susan Stroman, and starring a slew of theatre favorites including Hunter Foster and Joanna Gleason. A new chunk of tickets just opened up for that last night, and they will probably be gone soon as its a tiny theatre, so you may want to buy a ticket for that ASAP if you choose to see it.

BLITHE SPIRIT sounds like a sure thing. Angela Lansbury and Christine Ebersole hamming it up in true Michael Blakemore fashion is a chance not to pass up.

I also agree with Story of My Life. Enjoy your trip!

But not at full price!

I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

Thanks for the suggestions! I just bought two tickets for Happiness and am considering The Story of My Life and waiting for BWW comments.

I would definitely see Blithe Spirit. It's Angela Lansbury and who knows when you'll get the chance to see her onstage again.

Shrek is cute but in my opinion not worth seeing. Billy Elliot is an awesome choice!

Since I haven't been to NYC since December of 2007 I haven't seen a lot of what's new on Broadway. But I do suggest Fuerzabruta if you haven't seen it. I see you ordered 2 tickets for a show. Fuerzabruta is fun to see with someone else because it is kind of interactive and a lot of fun. Also love the music.

I think seeing Jane Fonda's return to Broadway is a must. Film star Samantha Mathis co-stars.
