I can see James Marsden as Fiyero, not Zac Efron, he looks right, but he doesn't have the high notes as we learned with HSM. Fiyero, I believe, has a similar range to Troy Bolton.
Anyway, back on topic, If they can't get Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the movie, they should certainly dub their voices over the final cast. Like it or not, the part of Glinda was WRITTEN for Chenoweth's voice, and even though many singers could sing it well, it really does technically have Kristin's personal stamp on it that can't be done by anyone else.
Also, the staging of the musical uses concepts that won't transfer well to film, No One Mourns the Wicked? Defying Gravity? I just can't picture them at all.
Do they REALLY have to do this? I mean Wicked is doing fine on stage - does it really have to be a movie?
Seriously, everytime I read a book, see a play or watch a TV show these days I find out soon after that there's a movie in the pipeline.

Hell, why not just do an animated film? Then they can use Krisdina Chenzel's voices!

Hmmm...OK, Wicked is certainly not one of my favorites, but even bad musicals deserve some measure of respect. It would be really difficult to portray it on film without making it look all strange and storybookish, unless it was intentionally strange and storybookish. In that case, the only director is Tim Burton.
I've always thought that "The Wizard of Oz" (you know, from 1939) looked like a more subtle version of Tim Burton's work. Hmmm....
Julianne Hough? Really?
Yes! REALLY..
I think Amy Adams is adorable, but her normal style is way too Disney Princess for her to play Elphaba. I'm not sure she wouldn't be too sweet, and I like a fiercer Elphaba.
I normally find Anne Hathaway completely boring, but I could see her being a good fit for Nessarose.
My vote for the Wizard would be Dustin Hoffman.
Either way, I agree with those who've said that this speculation is really premature.

My honest-to-God casting choices. I can't say this would be my "dream" casting as it is not my favorite show. In fact, it's top 3 on my list of shows I've hated. But regardless whether it is 3-7 years away, this film WILL be made.. And whos to say there wont be a HUGE star (yet to come) right for one of these roles in the future. But if I had to cast it right NOW:
Elphaba - Jennifer Garner (TRUST ME, the girl can belt)
Glinda - Amy Adams
Nessa - Anne Hathaway
Fiyero - Patrick Wilson
The Wizard - Dick Van Dyke or John Lithgow
Mme. Morrible - Meryl Streep or Bernadette Peters (this would be a great chance for Peters to get back into film)
Boq - ?
I'd like them to put a bit of charismatic sex appeal into the Wizard. to that end- Hugh Jackman. W him as the Wizard I'd build an Emerald City w a Yellow Brick Road!
I find Julianne's singing to be bland and devoid of personality.

Elphaba - An unknown. I can't think of a single living celebrity that can sing it, act it AND looks young enough.
Glinda - Kristen Bell would be fine. She really is more talented than a lot of people give her credit for.
Morrible - Bette Middler would OWN this role.
Wizard - I keep going back to Richard Gere for some bizarre reason in my head, so I'll say him for now.
Nessarose - A much better fit for Anne Hathaway.
Fiyero - If Jake Gyllenhaal's version of "And I Am telling you I'm not going" is anything to go by, cast him.
Dr. Dillamond - I'm pretty sure "Something Bad" would be the first song cut from the movie since it can easily be translated into dialogue, so really there are many decent actors who'd be great.
Producer David Stone was recently in Salt Lake City doing press for the tour and indicated that the movie probably won't happen for seven to 10 more years. He also said it will *not* star Kristin Chenoweth.

Just had a ponder:
Elphaba: A very, very talented 'unknown'.
Glinda: I'm warming to the idea of Kristen Bell.
Fiyero: Chace Crawford (absolutely no idea if he can sing...but...he's pretty)
Boq: Dunno, Lucas Gabreel from HSM might bring in some crowd, plus he's probably the only one who can actually sing without aid from HSM.
Nessarose: Anne Hathaway or Emmy Rossum.
The Wizard: Richard Gere maybe?
Madam Morrible: Bette Midler (haha) or maybe Meryll Streep.
Dr. Dillamond: Hugh Jackman could be good.
Elphaba's Father: James Marsden. (just quite fancy him being in here somewhere)
Elphaba's Mother: Idina Menzel (she did say she would incase of being too old, plus its a nod to the 'real' fans)
I would like to see lea michele as elphaba actually and I think Jonathan Groff or Gavin Creel would make some good fieyros'
This is clearly unpopular, but Defying Gravity will look WAAAAAAAY better on film than it does on stage. She's on an effing cherry picker people. I'm pretty sure CGI is better than a cherry picker.
ANYway, Kristen Bell would be absolutely terrific. She has insanely good comedic timing, she's beautiful, and she's bubbly. And she has a really good voice. Additionally, she's a SMART actress and she could actually pull off the growth Galinda has to show.
I still think they should cut a lot of the songs for the film version.
Oh god! It's a sock puppet aaaaaaugh!
Haha, at first I thought you were referring to me, and I was a little annoyed/confused.
Then I looked at the post above mine!
My compilation:
Elphaba-Katharine McPhee (if she can act it)
Glinda-Amy Adams or Kristen Bell
Fiyero-Justin Timberlake
Boq: Lucas Grabeel
Nessarose: Anne Hathaway
The Wizard: Dustin Hoffman
Madam Morrible: Bette Midler
Dr. Dillamond: ????
Elphaba's Father: Seth Myers (from SNL)
Elphaba's Mother: Idina Menzel

I love the idea of Lucas Grabeel as Boq. He's perfect really.
Anyways, you can basically predict now what songs will be cut.
Something Bad - Cut
I'm Not That Girl Reprise - Cut (I can even see I'm Not That Girl itself being cut)
Thank Goodness - Probably severely shortened or cut altogether, or worse, made into a montage of "Elphaba's Bad! Kill the witch!"
March Of Witch Hunters - Will probably be only in the score a la Cooties in Hairspray.
Everything else will stay in imo.
adamgreer: "I think it's inevitable that Fiyero in the film version will be Zac Efron. Mark my words."
That thought definitely crossed my mind *cringe*...I still think of him as [gay] jail-bait...but I didn't hate him in Hairspray...

NYC_or_Bust, I had no idea Jennifer Garner could sing. Do you know where I could find some clips? BTW I'd love to see Patrick Wilson as Fiyero, good casting!!!
Don't forget to please cut "Dear Old Shiz." Please.
Well I'm guessing that they'll use 'Dear Old Shiz' as music when they first enter Shiz, rather than sing it.
'Sentimental Man' can be reduced to a few lines said by the Wizard.
'Thank Goodness' and 'Something Bad' could also be converted to dialogue.
I agree that they probably will take out 'I'm Not That Girl (Reprise)' but they surely wouldn't remove it when Elphaba sings it.
I'm trying to think of where new songs could be put in...hmm...
I thought there should be a scene in Elphaba and Glinda's magic class, and for Glinda to have a better ballad to sing when Fiyero leaves.
