In "Breathe", she says "just me and the GWB..." What is "GWB"? Thanks.

Are you talking about the clip of Raul Esparza singing "Hair"? I think it was deleted. (It was in my favorites, but now it's gone...)

re: Illegal Peruvian Wicked Production? Sep 1 2008, 11:38:16 PM
OK, my espanol is a little rusty, but "escuela d'art" is a performing arts school, right? A+ for effort guys, but....seriously. With their obvious budget constraints, is Wicked really a good choice? What did they use for the flying monkeys, paper dolls on strings? Yikes.

re: After Rent Aug 21 2008, 03:01:19 PM
They will all hitch to Santa Fe, then hold hands and sing "Seasons of Love" as they hurl themselves off the tallest cliff they can find--maybe that one Roger was climbing in the film. Because they all know that there can be no life after RENT.

re: Alicia Sacramone and Lea Michelle? Aug 21 2008, 02:49:38 PM
YoYo, I agree. That's what I was trying to say. I wasn't making fun of Shawn Johnson--I think she's totally perky and adorable. Looking elvish is not a bad thing, it's cute. On a side note, I'm 30 years old and still look very much like a Campbell's Soup Kid, so I won't criticize anyone's appearance--expecially for looking young. :)

re: Alicia Sacramone and Lea Michelle? Aug 21 2008, 02:23:10 PM
Wow guys, critical much? OK, first of all, I just have to defend poor little Alicia. She probably got enough crap from her teammates for losing them the gold medal. I looked up Turner Syndrome, and I'm thinking probably not. It's more likely that she's oddly proportioned because she's spend her entire childhood and teenage years vigorously training to flip-flop around and hurl herself through the air, resulting in an unbalanced body fat to muscle ratio. She probably weighs like 90 p

re: Another Kristen to play Glinda on Film? Aug 21 2008, 01:20:02 PM
Hmmm...OK, Wicked is certainly not one of my favorites, but even bad musicals deserve some measure of respect. It would be really difficult to portray it on film without making it look all strange and storybookish, unless it was intentionally strange and storybookish. In that case, the only director is Tim Burton. I've always thought that "The Wizard of Oz" (you know, from 1939) looked like a more subtle version of Tim Burton's work. Hmmm....

re: Wharton Center in East Lansing Michigan Aug 18 2008, 12:58:07 AM
Hi, I've seen a number of shows at Wharton. Without looking at the seating map, my best advice is to sit as close as possible to the center. The rows are long, and not steeply curved, so the ends of the rows are not the best seats. You need to be at least 1/3 of the way in to have a decent view. I would definitely go a few rows further back to be closer to the center. Hope that helps.

re: Casting Celebrities in musicals Aug 18 2008, 12:30:56 AM
Ha! This is pretty whack. (FYI...not in a good way...) But, I will give you cred for Walken as the Wizard, only because it would be wet-your-chair hilarious. Walken's delivery would be just the thing to elevate this trainwreck to a whole new level of mockability.

Cats Phantom Company Honorable mention: Cabaret w/Raul Esparza. Terrifying. Absolutely freakin terrifying.

WINSTON. Aug 18 2008, 12:08:17 AM
Let my preface by saying that I'm not a Renthead or a hater. I think it's sort of OK. I would agree that RENT is a "watershed" musical, which is evidenced by its cultural significance. I don't understand why. I don't personally find much about it to be new or groundbreaking. It's full of stock characters, over-used themes, and mediocre music. Yeah, the songs are catchy and it has a cool "stick it to the man" message, but so what? The thing about RENT, or Rocky Horror, or

re: How old is Bloody Mary's daughter in South Pacific? Aug 17 2008, 11:53:57 PM
I always thought that Liate was supposed to be in her late teens--like 16-18. You know, old enough to be thought a woman but not really an adult. They never really say how old she actually is.

re: Things you never realised and now feel dumb about. Jul 19 2008, 05:00:40 PM
OK, not Broadway related, but... When I was little, and the weather report talked about the "windchill factor", I thought they were saying "windshield factory". I wondered what was special about the windshield factory and why people would care how cold it was there. It took me a few years to figur that one out.

re: Stage Dooring Standards and Protocol Jul 17 2008, 01:14:09 PM
Along the vein of respect the actors, that goes for EVERYONE that exits the stage door. I witnessed some very rude things being shouted at orchestra members at the Spamalot stage door this spring. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the crowd was comprised of mostly Claymates, who nearly ripped the hecklers limb-from-limb.

re: Movies of Aida and Footloose... Jul 17 2008, 01:07:11 PM
Footloose remake? Seriously? Holy Movie Musical, Zac Efron! I call shenanigans on the brilliant minds that came up with that one. Kevin Bacon is the. only. one.

re: The Search for Elle Woods: The Spoiler thread Jul 17 2008, 12:54:14 PM
I think that for some of them, it may be better to NOT win this show. Take Autumn for example, she's very talented. If the spoilers are true and she comes in second, then she's had the experience and gotten some exposure without being tied down to this particular show. It's really a win-win situation. I don't doubt that we'll see her starring on Broadway soon. (Edited to change Lauren to Autumn, which is what I meant to say...)
