it was by Lexington and somewhere in the 50s. it was the same picture already posted but from the side angle so it fit better. it looked great!

MyNameInLights, I do agree that I shouldn't have used the word "tard". But at the same time you haven't read it all from the start, have you? I mean I came to Broadway forums in order to interact with people and discuss Rent after I found out that Melanie would be in it, NOT to fight or to argue. I met some lovely people so I am thankful that I joined here in the first place.

Different opinions ONLY make this world more beautiful, I respect them unless it comes to IGNORANCE. I posted a link to the clip of Mel B's singing "Out Tonight" StateOfJade said that she sounded awful, I post a Promo picture of Melanie and while everyone else says she looks Mimi-ish, this person claims that she looks 80 years old. Then when someone asks about Cab ads, she says "ads on a Taxi is not big of a deal", did anyone SAY it WAS?

I mean seriously even if you do not like Pop Stars on Broadway, it doesn't mean that you have to be so ignorant regarding their work, especially whithout even seeing Mel in the musical yet.

The bottom line is this isn't a dabate where a winner will be declared. No one is saying opinions can't be had. But it seems those who keep shouting 'please respect my opinions' don't extend the same offer. Hence, the point this thread is at now.
The newer members who may have joined recently due to MelB joining RENT are certainly welcome here.
But those of us have been around a while (and I don't even consider myself one of the "voices" of the board...) know that they either have to conceed here and there OR they'd better be able to back up their thoughts and opinions wholeheartedly (and confidently) without resorting to back-and-forths that just keep attacking.
It is my opinion that this is the reason for the hostility towards the MelB fans.
Opinions and thoughts are indeed what this place is about, but sometimes you have to emotionally remove yourself from it now and then to enjoy it all!

JasonX: I agree with MyNameInLights, calling anyone a "tard" is most definitely crossing the line. "Silly hypocrite" or "thick head" is one thing.. While they may be putdowns to the target, that is the only person they're directed at. Using a name like 'tard' is not only a putdown to the person it's directed to, it's derogatory to the mentally retarded. In my book it's very close to slurs about race, religion, sexuality, whatever people cannot change. It's a level up from name-calling like what StateOfJade is doing. And since you'd already apologized, why are you now disputing it?

I'm all for debating and sharing viewpoints, that's what message boards are for, but when it descends into petty name-calling and personal attacks I think it's just dumb.

The only reason I'm even having this pointless argument with you is because you got mad when I said that the picture of Melanie was disgusting. But you know what? In my true, honest opinion, it is. And I honestly think she looks about 80 years old. And if you don't believe that, you should see her headshot in the playbill. But my point is, if you can't accept other people's opinions, you're bound to have a hard time. Not that that's not what's already happened. Just let it go already.

The thing is as MelB4Ever already said Melanie B is actually 28 and when you keep saying that she looks 80 years old it is actually a BIG insult to Mel B, apart from being an "opinion" which can hardly be taken seriously.

But I understand that there IS a reason behind your being so hateful towards Melanie Brown. You are a HUGE FAN of Karmine Alers and therefore the jealousy you ooze is understandable now. Are you kidding? Of course I would respect that person's opinion. Of course I wouldn't be happy about it, but I'd be wise enough not to say anything about it. And no offense, but why should I care if my saying Mel looks 80 something offends you? Don't you think I wouldn't of posted it if I wasn't expecting someone to argue against it? I was just voicing my opinion. And who says it can hardly be taken seriously? Take a trip to the RENT messageboard. There have been some promo pictures of her in the show passed arond, and people have had similar opinions. And what are you talking about 'I ooze jealousy' because I am a fan of Karmine? That makes absolutley no sense at all, and is not at all true. That's just ridiculous.

As for you questioning the other people 'What would YOU say if someone insulted your favorite actress?' Like I said before, most people would just grimace and move on. Not everyone is bound to like the same person, and it doesn't take much logic to figure that out.

So for YOU, there is NO difference between a humble opinion and a personal INSULT, now you made it CLEAR. This is a free message board and is frequently checked by Broadway actors, so when person in her 20s like Melanie Brown comes across to an appearance INSULT about her looking "like an 80 years old WHORE" coming from you as your "opinion", she has to RESPECT you for that then! Good, now you left NO chance for your "wise" buddies to defend you.

StateOfJade, as a conclusion let me say that I have seen a picture of you and Karmine in your icon and in the fan photos gallery and in all honesty she looks like a five-dollar hooker who is yet to reach puberty.
