Another film version of "Hello, Dolly!"?

Does anybody here think that after Bette is finished with her run on Broadway in "Hello, Dolly!", that there would be interest in another film version. I think that since everybody thinks that this show is her at her best, wouldn't it be a good idea to capture it on film?

What do you mean "another" film version? That thing that 20th Century Fox released wasn't HELLO, DOLLY! Whatever it was had all the life sucked out of it and it was as flat as a leftover latke.

Dollypop, what did you think of the film the Matchmaker with Shirley Booth? After watching the musical revival, my friends and I are thinking of watching this film. Is it only in B&W or is there a color version?

THE MATCHMAKER stands on its own fabulously. Shirley Booth breaks the fourth wall throughout the film which adds quite nicely. Plus, a young Shirley MacLaine as Irene Malloy and Anthony Perkins as Cornelius? You can't go wrong in any way possible. The film was shot in black and white. It was a cinematic choice and an art form so accept that. Color film has existed since the early 1930s (1939's THE WIZARD OF OZ and GONE WITH THE WIND are prime examples). Black and white films were intentional and a creative choice not a limitation, like 1966's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? as well as 1983's RUMBLE FISH. Asking for a colorized version of a black and white film is preposterous and I'll be diplomatic and leave it at that.

I think it should be taped live. And I think the television production team behind "She Loves Me" should be hired to do it .

Add another great big 'YES' to that!

A live television production on NBC seems a little more likely.

I'd prefer live in HD. Regardless, Bette's performance should be preserved.
