I saw the tour when it came through Philly a season back and I loved it and would absolutely see the show on Broadway should it be revived.

There's currently a ''Sound of Music'' revival, directed by Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, that's playing the East Coast. This week, it opens at Waterbury, Conn., followed by Hershey, Pa.; Buffalo and Schnectady, N.Y.; Memphis, Tenn.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Toronto, Ontario; Washington, D.C.; and Cleveland, Ohio.
Charlotte Maltby is playing Maria, and Ben Davis is Capt. Von Trapp (however, Nicholas Rodriguez takes over in Hershey).

Yes, the tour was mentioned...I think the op was referring to ON Broadway.

Time does fly. Almost twenty years since the last revival which starred Rebecca Luker. More noteworthy, it was the Broadway debut of Laura Benati, Luker's understudy who took over the role. I remember reading a review in the Times which preferred the show with Benanti and her youthful energy. I felt sorry for Rebecca having to read that review.
Wikipedia special: the 1981 London revival starred Petula Clark who took the role despite misgivings about her age of 49. She received rave reviews and the show had the largest advance sale in London history. Maria von Trapp at the premiere called her the best Maria ever and the production set a record for highest weekly attendance.
