Does anyone know of a professional company of Rent performing anytime soon? It's my favorite musical of all time, and I missed it on Broadway and the tour that followed the show's closing. Hollywood Bowl was too far of a journey for me, but I heard it was nothing compared to the original show.

Alternately, you can ask romgitsean.

Just get the dvd of the "final" performance. Aside from some odd filming angles at time, it's the only way you'll be able to see the original production.

The MTI site will show you any and all upcoming productions. I have to ask, though, if it's your favorite musical of all time, how you managed to miss not only the Broadway production, but 13 years of tours!

Well, to be fair, the OP may be too young to have gone to the theatre, and didn't discover it until late in the run.
A Chorus Line is my favorite musical, but I was 4 when it closed, I didn't discover it until 10 years after the fact, so I had to wait for the revival and subsequent tours to see it. (It's not done terribly often in my area)

I actually didn't discover Rent until after the Broadway run was closed and the most recent tour had stops that were too far of a journey.
You're welcome!

So your favorite musical of all time is one you haven't seen yet? Or have you seen the movie?
Hell, my favourite musical of all time is one I haven't seen yet. I've listened to the cast recording countless times, and I own the lib and the vocal score, but it's not exactly frequently performed. A musical is more than just one particular production, y'know. :P

I own both the movie and the "Filmed Live on Broadway" blu-ray. I watch them both nearly every other day.
I just saw a production of RENT at Westchester Dinner Theatre just north of NYC here :

It was opening night, so there were a few technical glitches, but WOW was it a stunning production. They did some really interesting things with the show. What a powerful, powerful piece RENT is AND the cast really shined last night. It will only get stronger, and the technical glitches will be fixed.
Favorite moments remain Without you staging, I'll cover Reprise, Seasons of Love, Take me or Leave Me, and yes, that wonderful, wonderful act 1 closer. The cast include broadway veterans, many RENT tour veterans, and newbies.

Creepy...
I don't find it creepy. Some people choose alcohol and drugs, some choose Rent.

orlandog, that is great to hear, I am going next week and was afraid they would not do it justice.
They really did an amazing job, and I don't know how the community will embrace the show because it's pretty much in tact with the original script without too much editing.
My absolute fav dynamic is between the Angel/Collins (Justine Senese and Angelo Rios are STARS in their respected roles (acting and vocally). Vocally, the cast is extremely strong. The ensemble is just outstanding. Joanne/Maureen are great. Mark is great. Season of Love Soloist is JUST INCREDIBLE, and little standouts include Alexi darling. Roger/Mimi will get better with time, They're gelling nicely, but they have a little more acting work to do (in my opinion). Their voices are outstanding but Roger/Mimi dynamic is very important to RENT. RENT is a HUGE acting piece and the director has assembled some strong singers, who act. So a trip to see it again is definitely planned.
Although, I've said a few important things about the production I don't want to 'review' it because as I said, they just opened. That said, my one grief with the overall show was the band. Hopefully, the band will get it together because the cast is dynamite.

I had this in mind when I bought the tickets, figuring they may cut out a lot and really butcher it, I am so glad they haven't.
I hope it does well, I see they added Student Ticket, $20 Show only or $52 for dinner and show

Anyone know if this theatre is accessible via public transportation from the city?
A RECENT REVIEW OF THE SHOW...highlighting some of the things I mentioned in depth...enjoy!

It was a fairly quick and easy train ride from the city on the metro north(grand central station to TARRYTOWN) and a short taxi ride to the theatre. If you don't want to do dinner, you can go for the show alone, but the experience of the dinner/show was worth it (in my opinion)

Saw this yesterday, really enjoyed it, was great to see it performed live once again. I thought the cast was great, both vocally and in their performances.
If you can, go see it, definitely worth a trip out of the city for it. For those who those not interested in dining, they sell "show only" tickets the day of performance for $45 (also have student pricing, see above)
Went last Friday and so glad I did. Got my fix. :)
If you are a fan, go see it! Final performance is this Saturday.

Then count me in as "creepy", too! Rarely a morning goes by that I don't play the obc of HELLO, DOLLY! It sets my day off on a positive note.
